I was up Red Rocks way and gotta see my lifelong friend and original climbing partner, Richard Harrison. Over the years Richard climbd everything across America and bagged the FA on hundreds of outstanding lines out at the Red Rocks, from Cloud Tower to (fill in the blank). A real hard man, and my friend.

Richard dropped out of high school because it was cutting into his climbing time - a bold move for 1970.

Per ham and eggs - they say chicken is committed, but the pig is all-in. Richard was all-in. From the first time he tied into "the perlon."

Plus a real nice guy to boot! I had the pleasure of speaking with Richard on the phone last year and he's still putting up tons of routes around the Great Basin area of NV. One of the coolest guys ever...

My original climbing partner from 1983 and I talk on the phone a few times each year. Our lives have prevented us from climbing together for a long time, but that bond we made as kids still remains. I haven't engaged in too many things that have created such a bond.

Pretty special . .

I have high-school buddies, college buddies, work buddies, music buddies, and just pain ol' buddy buddies. But nothing beats the buddies I have who I've grown close to through "the perlon."

Way to go John, way to go Richard. Keep up the good work and the great vibes.

and the one, here, highlighted...

friends are that eternal treasure... found, or 'mined', through our many journies... or, simply 'dropped into our lap' becoming ours, at a quiet moment, where was have taken to pause, along the way...

My old desert rat bros are still around, but I suspect I'm the only one dumb enough to keep climbing regular like. Have made friends since then, but the old ones have the old stories.

This thread could use a good story about the two of you.

My wife and I were in one of the Rivers or Pines campgrounds in Yosemite spring 1986. One afternoon a VW van pulls up. two guys get out and say we just came down off the Nose can we stay here tonight? We said sure and I remembered Richard was one of them.
Fast forward to Las Vegas in 2000. My friend Carl and I were staying with his buddy Wendell Broussard. Wendell starts talking about Richard and I tell him the Yosemite story. Wendell says that was me and my van! Then he takes us to his garage and shows me the van.
I backed off of Rock Warrier in 1987 even though I was doing more run out 5.10 back home at the time. It was the real deal, as I am sure Richard is.

A special connection beyond words. Old partners are like a touchstone to the precious past.
I keep looking for Richard as I poke around remote NV. I am sure to see you John on your movie tour out this way.

You guys were, and are, a big inspiration for us mere mortals!
