Reading about Richard and The Adventure Punks definitely effected my climbing. Especially the story of Rock Warrior. Much respect and gratitude.

Climbing has introduced me to the best friends I could have ever imagined.

Just reconnected with a man that climbed with me on my first day of climbing. We have both moved thousands of miles from our original home. Out of the blue, he called to do Cycle Oregon together. In our past, we shared climbing, biking, and running. The 25 year gap seemed very small as we hammered out the miles. SOme freindships are forged in a good fire.

Living in Vegas, I have met Richard a few times and he is one cool guy for sure.

The first time I met him was in the gym, shortly after I had started climbing. He was in with his daughter who was 12 or 14 at the time and leading 10s on the roof like they were walk-ups.

He sat down by me on a break and introduced himself with "Hi! I'm Richard Harrison" to which my response was "Yes, I know!" Ha. Being the standard new stars in my eyes climber, I knew the whole Stonemasters lore and was already wanting to do walls because of them.

Watching him climb, even in the gym was inspiring to say the least. Even with his leg being in really bad shape by then, he moved like he was on glass. You got the impression that he had already worked out the move on the drive over to the gym, that effortless.

Glad you got to spend some time with him JL, haven't seen him around in a long time.

Richard was always an inspiration to me and such an incredibly good and generous person. He has been at it for longer than most anyone, putting up an unbelievable number of great lines, developing entire areas, and as John said "all in" in a way very few have ever achieved.

Richard has been my climbing partner for going on 25 years. Taught me purt near everything I know. I think we've put up about 200 new routes scattered about Nevada together, and have plans for more.

Guido, Hennek, Russ, and I have been best of friends for most of our lives. In the early 70's while Russ was working as a guide in Jackson Hole, he took this picture of the three of us.

Hennek and I visited Guido a couple of weeks ago, and we re-staged the photo. It came out like this:

I've not met John or Richard.

I missed knowing Largo and it's one thing I meant to do last year at Oakdale, to introduce myself. He couldn't make it. Maybe this year.

BooDawg and Guido have treated me like a little bro of sorts since I've gotten to know them better, and it was swell (gee golly shucks) hanging out some at Facelift last September, too, especially because Lisa was sitting there! You are a lucky dog, Ken, for sure.

I'm looking forward to hearing more of BooDawg's highly entertaining songs at the campfire up in Yellow Pines this coming week.

This kind of pose is an old one, isn't it?

Getting back to Richard Harrison...

He is a constant in my world: like Largo,a friend for more than 40 years; always outstanding on rock, he is still climbing well and bags new routes; we see each other infrequently, but always pick up where we left off.

Looking forward to tying in with him again in the next year.

Re-reading this thread really saddens me, thinking of Richard's daughter and friends. It makes me really appreciate how fragile life remains, and to treasure my own special friends -- several of which have been climbing and mountaineering with me for more than 45 years. I am terribly sorry, John, for your loss.
