BASE104,
For those dimwits like me who didn't know her, can somebody tell her story?
Most of the story is on p1 of this thread.
Hope Meek and Jim Baldwin were girlfriend/boyfriend,
but then Jim had a fatal accident in June 1964 (rapped off the end of the rope while descending from an attempt on Washington Column East Face).

If only we were all so versatile and adventurous

Doesn't that say it all.
The legacy of an incredible person.

The first ascent of this route was done considerably earlier by Hope Meek and Jim Baldwin; probably around 1964-1965

So excited! Finally able to access tons of my photos. Here's Hope and Jan at the Sacherer Memorial. Hope was so awesome. A shining star in our great universe. Cheers to you, Gal. lynnie

She climbed up to nearly the top of the Golden Gate Bridge until the winds got so great she had to retreat.

Well, and then there were the Po-lice. :)

Thanks Lynne!

Hope is all teary eyed there so I think it must have been taken right after the showing of the Cooper and Baldwin movie made in Squamish?

Thanks, Ed. Just remembering Hope a few days ago as I paged thru my Yosemite Climber book. I had her sign it and she graced the page with "Hope Meek, Baldwin's woman." A very special human being.

my favorite Hope story was the most recent, her and Jan getting pulled over by LEOs leaving the Sacherer memorial at the East Auditorium

suspicious driving under the influence of climbing I suppose...

rapscallion bump. would have asked her perspective on "Harold and Maude". being there? really, most likely, would never have been so bold
