I always liked Russ M's nickname, The WALLruss. It was fitting for him at the time; was right about when he did that sick Sticatto(no rope aid solo)of the Zodiac! Anybody heard from that guy, I hope he's doing well?
Cade Loyd, the master of nicknames, gave my Zodiac partner a realy good nickname:
For Sean and myself both, this would be our first El Cap route, it was 94' I think. Anyway, Sean needed a hammer, and from the utility drawer in his kitchen; he pulled out the homeowners' claw hammer and we hiked up. Hiking with a load for us Cade notices the hammer... From that day on, Sean would be now Known as.. Stanley. Some people don't even know that's not his real name!

A couple of years ago Mark Powell told me how Dolt's nickname came about.

He said that at times Bill would start excitedly explaining something and all of his words would come out at once, making, at times, not a whole lot of sense. So Mark would affectionately shout: "You DOLT!"

I asked Mark how it was that they came to climb together so much? Was it personality, etc.? His reply: "He always said 'yes'!"
