Thanks to all for your insights and memories. My mind has him forever fixed in a BBC broadcast, I think of the Old Man of Hoy, which also aired on ABC's Wide World of Sport in the 1960's. It was the first televised show accurately depicting climbing that I watched after I started climbing. In fact, the only other show I remember about real climbing at all before then was a piece on "You Asked For It" or "Bold Journey" (I don't remember which) in the 1950's.
Anyway, My mind had him frozen as he was in the mid-1960's, so it was a bit of a shock to realize that he was in his 80's now.
RIP to one of my earliest climbing heroes.
