In 2004, I snapped my first "self portrait", before "selfies" became "a thing".

It first started with a love of photography and light, and capturing "the moment". Also, I was by myself quite a bit, and my own muse, so to speak. I also prided myself on taking different types of self portraits, utilizing various shutter speeds, angles and the like. And, I am a near spitting image of my mom, Gloria, which I take pride in. Unfortunately, she passed away at age 35, much too young.

I will be 45 this year, for which I am grateful. I have out lived my mom by 10 years, and have had the beauty of watching my son grow into the man he is today. Again, I am very lucky to have this joy in my life.

Today, when I snap a self portrait, I view the photos, and wonder "is this what my mom would have looked like", had she lived beyond her young 35 years? I examine the eyes we share and the smile she passed on to me. I "look" for her, so to speak....and strangely enough, I see her.

At the time my mom passed away, her body had been ravaged by cancer, and the subsequent treatments to keep her alive. I never view photos of my mom in that state of health, as they are not how I choose to remember her. I elect to recall her gentle voice, her loving embrace and how strong she was... a fighter for life.

I will never apologize for the amount of photos I take, even selfies. I have very few photos of my mom, and the photos I do have are cherished, beyond belief, especially in our current world of digital media. All my photos of her are old school slides... Thank you, Dad, for capturing her short life.

I look forward to sharing my point of view photos with all of you, but especially with my son. May he always remember our trips to the boulder, Tucson sunsets, our unique and beautiful desert, the place he grew up. And may he always have more than enough photos of me to look at as he and I both continue to grow and age.

Peace and sincere love, LisaMae ❤️

And as for you, Anita, don't be jealous because you're not as gorgeous as me after 30 days without a shower.

Selfies didn't exist back then -- this was as close to a selfie as one could get.

And anyway, you're just grumpy, because I'm prettier than you!!! (Greasier hair, too.)

This page was off to a good start - until Ghost's dog-face showed up.

May as well pile on.

It was a scorching 73* on Whidbey Island yesterday, so naturally I was looking for some shade. Found it on the front porch of Admiralty Head Lighthouse.
