Moonset over L.A.

( the lights of the Rose Bowl, lit for tonight's BCS game, are just below the left edge of the moon in the last shot )

You know its coming. NASA's finest hour.

Stone cold cap-com dudes
(-who think their buds on Appolo 13 Odyssey/Aquarius are going to die- )
bravely talk astronauts thru confused accident procedures in effort to save their lives.

1hr 20 mins+ of icy cool horror. NASA technical gobblygook at its best!

You hear the dread creep into their tone as 13's Command Module dies!
Absolutely NASA's finest hour.

I'm relyin' on Ed Hartouni, the land's smartest moon-ologist, to enlighten us as to the moon's phase on the date, January 18 of this here year, of this concert/musical endeavor involving a second act called by the name of Ahwahnichi.

Whaddya say, Ed, old moon?

Is it lunatic? Do you need live chickens to consult an Uphemeris?

I'm inviting anyone who wants to come to join me in celebratting the Tribe of the Ditch, the proceeds of which, go into the britches of RC and his brother.

A good time, next door to a good pub, well, who could ask for more?

A full moon is too crazy for to wish, but Ed knows...don'tcha?

92% illumination on 1/18/2014, that's pretty full..

from Dehli (37.48272º N, 120.75017ºW)

Sunset between 17:00 and 17:15

Moon rise
time........bearing....... altitude
19:30......78º............-5º
19:45......80º............-1º
20:00......83º............. 1º
20:15......85º............. 4º
20:30......87º............. 6º
20:45......89º............. 9º
21:00......92º.............12º

the bearings are "true" so if you take a compass, make sure you know the declination (probably nearly 13º, magnetic N is East of true North).

Pardon me, Ed. What is a "compass?" Thx. Everything in micro-shell.

You rock like Luna!

Moosie, can you see me? Hear me? Come. Selene awaits in the hills north of town.

Wow Chaz...those are some amazing (and slightly creepy) photos of the moon melting over LA. Time to pull out the rebreather...

no problem Mouse...

The Larry's image certainly seems a start to some surreal short story... it begs the question "what happened next?" great image!

Bravo, Darwin!

Have fun!
There is a juxtaposition of the evening star tonight. It's not quite that full, but it's still gorgeous.
My equipment's limited. This is a toughie by any standard.

Best moon shot I've ever seen was taken not far from where I live just a few days ago. It was published on a local blog, by a photographer named David Hutchison. (I'll remove it if asked to).
