Joining this thread a bit late--decades late! But to put it simply, Kevin was simply the heart and soul of the Gunks and the greatest friend a climber could have. Those of us who were fortunate to know him, not just through climbing topics, realized the depth of his humanity and the breadth of his interests. I continue to miss him to this day.

Great photo set. Also, the way ropes used to be carried once upon a time.

Hard to believe that it was 29 years ago Tuesday that we lost Kevin. His spirit remains strong as evidenced by Bob'D'A's picture and tribute on the revived Shawangunks threat. So a good time for a Kevin bump.

Kevin Bein always intimidated the sh#t out of me. Obviously not for being mean or obnoxious but for the intensity of his persona and the real interest he had in my very mortal skills and the lower end climbs I did. I have not met another person like that ever in any context or environment.
