Was Wonderful to meet the many of you that came to the first Woodfest! Suffice to say cloudburst canyon has never seen such a crowd at the bottom..

Monkeys were 'sendin' all over the place. Unfortunately, there was a rock fall victim on one of the new routes. He was struck while belaying when a climber dislodged a toaster size chunk. Good news is there were no broken bones but some good road rash on arm and leg. The victim never dropped the belay though-- a GOOD HEAD on that guy. (apologies as i didnt get his name.) But he had two first responders and a Dr present at the base, and was in very good hands from start to finish as a large group walked him down.

THe event had a STELLAR PIG roast by Shawn and Fiance, Renada, which could have fed a medium sized army! It was one of the few quiet time during the feed as all jaws seemed bent on destroying some of that fine swine Shawn prepared!

The new climbs Kenny has been working on (short approach!) were being enjoyed by many, as was the classics such as OTTD and other routes on One of these days wall.

Meeting all these younger Woodbarians left me with the feeling that the Canyon is in good hands. Nice Trails have been carved out of the thick N facing brush - and vigorous cleaning of the newer routes makes them quite nice. The enthusiasm for such a special little canyon lives , not just in Dan, Mark and all the others that have been around a while there, but in the newer "Woodbarians" as well. Also good to meet climb2skis Dad, at 80 years old, he has had quite the adventurous life!

We raised some duckets to aid in the New guide ChimChim is working on! Even that wandering Mustelid MOUSE from MERCED showed up with some very cool auction items. A round of appluase was given to all there over the recent rock removal project that was thwarted as well! ( much thanks to Kenny T and Super topo)..

Tad,, Moosedrool , Vegas Climber , Mouse and many other STers were there, and i regret having to return to work missing todays goings on. (CHIM,, i forgot to get that box of wooden treasures too dangit! Youve a good eye for artsy chunks! )

What was obvious was that GOOD times where being had by all. Weather was great (for once) and food and company ,, simply STELLAR.

From the "fossil crowd" I thank all for letting me be part of it!

ps,, i dont have any pics, as i forgot the camera.. But im sure some will post up, there were plenty other cameras about!

Great times, great people, and I still need an army to finish the pig. It was great to see soooo many generations of climbers up there sharing our passion.
The accident was unfortunate and Im glad to hear he had no serious injuries......he's gonna be sore for a while.
Many people said it was a wake up call for them to wear a helmet on the ground as well.

During the medical treatment of him a harness was probably thrown in to a pack by mistake. If you find it let me know so I can get it back to him.

Will post up some pictures later as I need to get some pig juice off of me and hit the shower.

Thanks everyone for a great time and hope to do it again next year............

yeah it was a good time. thanks for all the hard work Shawn and Renada, gvilleclimbing has the harness. we climbed today a bit it's pretty windy. the route where littlez sustained an injury is going to have the anchor removed, it's not a very good route and that's #2 casualty.

GUD idea Kenny. Theres tru choss sections here and there. zero need for routes on them when there is 10,000 other SOLID ones.

It looked like folks were enjoying those new routes youve put up-- and the trail building easily passes any EAs.. Well Done sir!

good to see you there Ron, you should come up more often. it's a mystery who those anchors came from but looks like zero choss removal occurred. there's plenty of quality stuff to climb without that particular route. I call it the mahogany mantle.

From the other thread kennyt...

Tips were thrashed from Fri. I thought about coming down for some pig, but my misanthropic nature prevailed and I did yard work, put out my crawdad trap, and finished up some work instead.

Was cool to meet THocking and several others. Good chat with Ron and Tad with my dad who is down visiting. Nice to see Seth climbing and Shawn and Renada doing the roastin. Unfortunately had plans for the evening and couldn't stay long. My dads visit from Alaska has to come first and Woodfords will be there in all it's sweetness for years to come.

Hi all, this Brian from Gardnerville. I was being belayed by Jim when he got hit by the rock.
Jim is banged up and pretty scraped up too, but nothing was broken and he is up and around but sore as hell. We are so great full for all the help getting Jim down. We were having such a great time up until then. Sorry about getting Tyler's harness in the confusion. We will be taking it to REI on Tuesday and drop it off there. I left couple of slings and binders at the top of the climb I was doing, someday I am sure I will get them back.
I have not had time to read all the posts above, so thanks again everybody.

We talked bout hidden "nooks" of flat sand and rock rims. About "Lightning dream" and other Dano creations during the WOODFEST. You can call me strange, but there were multiple times i felt a presence. One that had me jerking up at the stone to look.. Came away with the feeling of a spirit being PROUD, proud of the newer generations that now occupy and go forth unto the new. Proud of the manner in which they do it.. Yeah dudes, dudettes,, he was up there with us..

edit: Chim,, you bet,, hold onto that wood,, ill nab it from ya sometime!
