Blanchard and I built one of those at our cabin behind Slocum's in Mammoth. We had to leave the water running all winter to keep the pipes from freezing, so we climbed a big ass Jeffrey pine and ran a hose up there. It made a tremendous ice tower. I have really cool photos of ice climbing expeditions in my very backyard. . . might have to dig 'em out and scan 'em! It was a blast!
HA!

Assuming ~6' diameter (3')squared x ~20' high x pi = 565 cubic feet with 7.48 gallons of water per cubic foot = 4226 at 8.34 lb a gallon =
35,246 lbs something like that. Anyways it's pretty heavy

HA!
You and Blanchard, Chris. . . he was totally weirded out by how big and heavy the thing was, he figured it out, too!
Nice thing about Jeffs, though, would be the consistency of the girth of their trunks for a very long way - so the tree, itself, added to the support of the ice tower. It's not like all that ice was hanging from the branches.

Mike,
If that's your front yard, where do you park the truck?

Not quite front yard, but can be there in 5 minutes. Have done a climb over the lunch hour and was not late.
