Where is Anders?

One of ST's most prolific posters has disappeared. Erased two weeks worth of posts, and... And what? Kidnapped by aliens? Changed his name and eloped to the Cayman Islands?

If I recall, he said something in the "Lolli's gone" thread indicating that he might just pack up and go, too. But he's erased that post along with everything else since the 14th of January.

Maybe some of the Vancouver/Squamish crowd could check and make sure he's okay? Maybe he's just taking a break from the ST madhouse, but...

Anders is great. At Face Lift I love working with him because he always has a oops! four letter word, plan. But we all need to change routine or life changes it for us. Whatever the case, we love yo Anders.

Just gotta say some of the funniest comments I've read in a while are right here on this thread. LOL.... and LOL is not just good it's GREAT for the soul.

Anders wrote me recently with a killer bakery recommendation in Vancouver so he hasn't fallen off the map.

He did delete a perfectly benign post or the Origin of Belay Devices thread which has had me wondering.

The ST party ebbs and flows so I hope that he will grace us with his presence again very soon. Losing good folks to the rant and rabble makes me a bit sad when I try my best to keep them engaged historically.

I will try to see what Anders is on about.

Someone who has posted on this very thread apparently thought so, because they could have deleted the offending thread at the time of their choosing, but chose to let it fester.

But apparently it was more important to that person to let that thread run its disruptive course, allowing more crap to be piled onto it, than it was to keep someone cool like Anders around.

pissing all over each other is a uniquely Canadian trait. It actually how we display affection.

Since there are so few people in Canada, pissing on the next guy is an object demonstration of one's achievable range.

Once one's range is established lesser political comment becomes secondary. That's why Canada is governable.

I think what ghost meant to say was; "If you could take your off topic conversation elsewhere and delete those posts it would be much appreciated."

No, Mike, what I meant to say was that jhedge and Donald Thompson are a pair of selfish as#@&%es who have absolutely no regard for anyone other than themselves. You could start a thread about the death of your wife, and the two of them would soon be all over it screaming about which of them was the bigger loser.

Craig Fry (Dr. F) started a thread in which people like that could vent their inadequacies. It might not be a fun place for most of us to visit, but in theory it serves the useful purpose of allowing people like jhedge and Donald Thompson to post on Supertopo without screwing things up for others.

I know you're trying to pour a little oil on troubled waters here, but the time for that is over. Be nice, and they'll just march in and sh#t in your punchbowl. The time has come to tell people like that to take their bullshit outside.

I've got to say the most f bombs in a row that I ever heard in my life happened at a motel outside Castlegar in BC, where I had to spend the night on the way to my sister's place. My room was unfortunately near a bar frequented by bikers who reved their motors and shouted out creative ways of effing each other until 4 am. This was after my sister had assured me on the phone that Canadians were much kinder and gentler than Americans. The only difference I could tell was that mercifully, they didn't have guns.

Since folks seem to bemoan the lack of climbing content around here, I would politely point out that on balance, ANDERS >>>>>>>infinity>>>>>>> the offensive photo thread.

That some of you are behaving worse than kids on a playground, ganging up and piling on whichever individual you've chosen on any particular day makes me wish I'd posted the stories about my birth parents elsewhere.

But here I am. Y'all are stuck with me.

And since you asked...

Anders is one of the most knowledgeable, kindest, funniest, generous and downright decent people I've had the pleasure of meeting. He is unobtrusive, but you'd better believe that he misses nothing and appears when he's needed.

And we do need him here. This forum is a much less soulful, humorous, touching and awesome place without Anders, and the many other folks that have been run off in the short, roughly 10 months since I joined your campfire.

Can no one see the opportunity being wasted here??? How often are you given the chance to stand on even ground with historical personalities, your heroes, past, present and future? Why are people driving them away in DROVES?!

Sigh. I can't believe I got trolled into a rant.

But I WILL sand up for folks I'd be proud to call friends.

+1 for Lila ^^^

I for one am grateful that you are here Lila and appreciate your insights. Everything you said about Anders is totally true. I refuse to speculate. I'm sure he'll come back when it suits him.

I stopped posting for about 6 months one time.. not intentionally. At some point a lengthy Facebook discussion occurred with lots of people posting the "reasons" why I "left the site". Absolutely none of the "facts" were true BTW. People were making up drama that didn't even exist. I just had a life and was busy living it and the Taco is not the center of my friggin universe.

That being said... Sheesh.. what the hell is wrong with some of you people? Seriously.. you need to step away from the computers. Go outside. Get laid. Smoke a bowl, go climbing, spend some time with family and friends, whatever floats your boat. Hanging around a website just being jerks is a waste of time.

Here we have a lovely display of the interactive cesspool that sent Anders off on the trail with nose and ear plugs.

Why would any sensible person want to be here to slurp this up?

If Cmac comes to the same conclusion, this whole show rolls up and leaves town.

THINK ABOUT IT...before you projectile vomit at the next guy.

To all of you who have chimed in since my rant, I offer my thanks.

I started this thread because I was worried about a friend. Several of Anders' other friends voiced their concern, as did a few people who, if they weren't old friends, had come to know and like Anders through this forum.

To have our concern defecated on by a couple of people who, obviously, couldn't care less about Anders or our feelings, set me off.

I've been posting here for years, and for many more years before that on rec.climbing, and I don't think I've ever gone over the edge like that. But Anders is not the only friend who has been pushed away by the kind of thoughtless behavior that was on display here, and when it happened...

Anyway, I'm thankful that so many of you have both shared your concern for our friend, and your disgust at those who saw that concern as just another platform for their selfishness.

Maybe there's hope. Maybe Anders (and a couple of others) will come back when he sees that there are people here who genuinely miss him. And maybe the people who barged in will see that they should keep their childish quarrels to threads expressly for that purpose.

Cheers all.

I came to this forum right around the same time Anders did. It was right around the time of Daryl's Memorial on top of the Chief. I made a connection with Anders and a bunch of other Canadians that post here and since that time I have become friends with several of these good people. What really gets me is why these two (expletive deleted)'s would discolor these calm waters. The civility shown amongst our northern neighbors is a model we could all do well to emulate.

It is stuff like this that makes me realize we really have a long way to go in this country to come to a consensus of meaningful change.

I also get the feeling that Anders has started some kind of social experiment with "we the Taco" as subjects. I am laughing already.

Anders account is still active, he wasn't deactivated. Hopefully he'll pop back in with some great climbing content on occasion. Take care Anders, thanks for the other 24116 posts you left as a legacy. Speaking for myself, I appreciated your company and thank you for the many positive contributions you made.

Even if you're a brave motherf*#ker with a deactivated account I'll still post it, if you ask nicely.

A regular net detective!

Lol.

DMT

It gets better...

Mighty Hiker basically confirmed that he was one of many people who received an email from "t*r" imploring them to sabotage the forum ("because they can't ban us all"). I'd bet a large sum of money DMT received one as well. In case anyone missed it, Mighty Hiker posted a huge string of photos (banner ads) shortly before the thread disappeared. One other user (who shall remain nameless to prevent further embarrassment) also posted the same images as "t*r" had earlier (evidently having received the links from "t*r"), but it was a rather feeble attempt as she didn't copy/paste dozens of lines as "t*r" had. Oops! "Epic fail" as they say...

It's a histrionic masterpiece!!!!!

lol

Indeed, this whole drama-queen saga with the hacking conspiracy twist is one of the all-time best.

t*r put me on her shltlist after I started a thread politely asking her to explain the "women get paid $.69 on the dollar" thing.

I'm all for gentlemanly conduct but thats just a tad bit too touchy for a climbing site.

So I'm a liar?

Hey man I have no beef with you, we go way back in cyber-land. I just thought it odd that she would implore a bunch of people to sabotage the forum and knott you, but if you say she didn't I'll leave it at that.

I've made no secret of my distain for the (now 30-something) adult-child over the years, based on her histrionics and antagonistic trolling on this forum, and am frankly perplexed as to why she always got a pass from so many of you, seemingly blissfully ignorant of her antisocial behavior. I mean, why knott stick up for Rajmit?

That said, I don't hold grudges generally, and I actually posted something very nice about her recently.

No she didn't.

She put up some big jpegs and wanted to bomb the thread not the site.

All the cry babies then cried to mama (Chris Mac), because they're little cry babies over a stupid worthless thread that can be found in a billion places on the internet (boobs).

Thus certain people here are stupid babies in adult packages.

What a bunch of losers ....

Hey, I know...

I'm feeling all butthurt because things aren't going my way so I hate all of you and I hate supertopo and I hate what this thread has become. I'm going to whine in public for a while then quit posting and then nuke this thread, and then start deleting my old posts. Especially ones that started threads people liked and worked hard to contribute to.

But don't worry, I'll then send a long rambling letter about it to Dingus and he can post it for me, because even though supertopo isn't worth my consideration and my time is too important to waste by posting here, I still need to post here, to make sure you all know that I don't need to post here anymore.

So, did I get it about right?

Try not to use the word stupid in your next few threads, Werner. Your constant use of it doesn't reflect well on you.

It is stupid bullsh!t and you know it.

I use the word as emphasis.

why give a flying f*#k about either side of this?

Can anyone give a rational explanation of why you guys care so much?

I see that this is not about a boobs thread, but an outlet to focus your ugly, depressed, mental state of mind. There is nothing wrong with that, in fact its healthy....but it might work a little more efficiently to call it what it is.

No one could possibly care so much about posting boobs either way....I just dont buy it.

Even the resident guru is all caught up in this over dramatic nonsense.

Here's a question. On something like the Squamish thread, since individual posters own their material, what's to prevent someone starting a new Squamish thread and everyone unhappy with the deletion, just copying and pasting their contributions to the new thread?

Or maybe when someone deletes a thread, they've given up their right to it and the whole thing can be copied and pasted to a new thread?

Here are the Squamish sites:
