Wow, Mussy and I did have the funk going on that night. Though I think Mussy had more funk going than I did. I went lite™ on the bling that night. It's about time to acquire more bling and get more funkadelic.

I still laugh at the photo - crimpy wanted me and Mussy to hug but instead we busted out that pose. That was some Funky Poker that night.

WERD!

People don't understand the funk groove today... you have to go ol' school ,, east bay grease, TOP. Good James Brown( with Bootsy) and the Metres. It just doesn't get that funky "smell" now a days. They don't leave room for the stink to fall into the pocket.

OK. First off, I think the word would be "Stanky", as in put some stank on it... =)

I'm somewhat pleasantly surprised, for some reason. Who'd a thought...? Funkateers in a climbing forum?

JB. If you give me some time and email me offline, I can hook you up with some Prince stuff that you can't buy. Long story. Have video, sounds, etc. Live/unreleased. I'd have to dig a bit, and convert to digital formats, but it's there. Also have some other Minneapolis stuff in general.

I really like some of Outkast's stuff. The Speakerboxx album had some great funky stuff on it! Definitely different from anything else in the newer stuff. I listen to it often. But nothing tops the "P-Funk. Un-cut funk. The Bomb..."

Cheers!

I've seen him a bunch of times...that guy blows so hard you can't even imagine (gotta be a sax player to appreciate it I guess)...saw him with Prince at the Aladdin - it's on DVD - insane performances - highly recommended!

bachar:
john scofield's "Blue Matter" ... I'm ambivalent about the production, but there's no denying some seriously laconic slightly behind-the-beat grooves and full-on frenetic funk.

Stevie's new CD is pretty cool..more on the soul side, but there are a couple of funky cuts as well. Definitely dig his old stuff though - love his "itchy/funky" sound!

d-know...wefunk.com - cool, gotta check it out, thanks for the tip. I like soul-patrol.com a lot. Karl Denson, yeah he can blow - got all his stuff too. Saw him in Mammoth a while back with the Greyboy All-Stars - funkin' good show!

hardman...Jamiroquai...I always liked that kid, kind Stevie Wonder-ish in his taste. They had some funky hits too. Funky UK white dude for sure.

Yep, Wefunk is supercool. Not only do they have archives for hundreds of shows, they also make the playlists available - a great way to root out the the tracks you like.

...and speaking of Mammoth, there used to be some cool shows once in a while here, but now it's nothing but jam bands and bluegrass - uggghh!!

Let's just say I'll be grateful when that trend is dead.

More than enough of that around here.
