Hey.
There is a new gym opening in Concord NH next month. Elevation Rock and Fitness. 15k sf of space.
Great news for the area. For those of you who scoff at the idea of a gym, come to NH in the winter and you'll get it. Since the Rock Barn closed, NH has been severely lacking (read, zero) gyms, save the couple in southern New Hampshire, which is essentially North Massachusetts.
It's kinda but not quite like NorCal/SoCal.
Regardless, if you're in the Concord area, check it out. I know I will.

As far as I can tell, the gym will be having a soft opening beginning this weekend.

Yeah, this is NH. Home of great climbers who migrate west.
It really is a good thing for the area. We have great crags nearby, but the climbing community is pretty spread out. People come to NH from all around, but locals haven't had a gym in the area for a while.
One major drawback, no cracks. I was disappointed to hear this, as it was my first question when I phoned the place last week.

Well, I get my license back next week and its only 45 minutes away, so I will probably check it out in the next couple of weeks.
My home gym is Indoor Ascent in Dover, which has an awesome community and atmosphere. That's about the same distance, but I get in free in exchange for a bunch of plywood volumes I made for them last Summer.

Hello Brandon, What is your source that there will be a "soft opening" this weekend? I spoke to the owner just over a week ago and she was doubtful that they'd be able to open as early as this weekend as originally planned. I had hoped to head there on Sat, but after speaking to her changed my plans---but it's not too late to change them back.
As for "no cracks"---worthwhile cracks in gyms are few and far between---they really don't seem worth the effort required to build them.
Oh, and "home of good climbers who move west"---gee, I can think of more than a few up North Conway way who are both "pretty good climbers" and very rooted in New Hampshire.

Thanks Brandon. unfortunately Sun probably won't work for me, but I'm sure I'll get up there to check it out one of these days. it isn't exactly convenient for me, but I always like to check out new "climbing areas" and Hilary is a friend. By the way, you mention a lack of climbing walls in the north country. I haven't been to North Conway in a few years, but hopefully will be heading up there this winter, but am I correct in assuming from your post that the wall in the Cranmore Fitness Center is no more?

I'm not sure about that one, North Conway is a bit of a hike for me. Honestly, I didn't know it existed.
There is one in Queechee VT that I failed to mention. It's small but fun, and ten minutes into Vermont, so I guess it counts.

Mark, you're a NH native?
We get around in the mountain community pretty prodigiously for such a small population.

This place just got their flooring installed last weekend, and given the current crap weather I am going tonight to check it out.
I haven't climbed indoors in 13 months.
