Ahh I thought as much!
my story ends, Rumor has it, that now he spends his time running a distribution center that would be interested in the M M M.
Some around these parts will know him and as I tell it they will know me .

That said,
we practiced the old school ways and pure, if not poor and Impecuniousness.
Stan built things.
He was a slight weight, and so a wizard on the rock!

When on the road he was dirtbag!

At home everywhere he was growing old like all of us when he took to flying , hanging under
Delta wings to start,
I was just a new Dad , no jumping ,flying out of control road tripping, no dawn wall!

a fine man that Stanley Smigel!! hi Stan !

Hey, Slick...I've been watching MIB3...and listening to a little cowboy music as a result. And Agent K gave Agent J some advice.*

Then I took it to The Factory to check out Reed and Dylan, just like in the movie.

Then I went time-traveling through The Google Way.

And now it looks like old JP has his first LP, JP (1971), listed as being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame this year.

It says here,
"John Prine is the first album by American country/folk singer-songwriter John Prine, issued by Atlantic Records in 1971. In 2003, the album was ranked number 458 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time."--WP

In the future, there will be another WP article stating John Prine is the first John Prine album to have been so honored. Which is to say there will be more. I may be wrong and often am...

All songs written by John Prine.

"No Prineophile?" ask I as I bestow you a smile,
"No, I'm a plain old music lover.
But I'd climb for a mile, then jump over a stile,
Just to listen to a JP cover."

Don't make assumptions you wish were truths.
It is a faux paw we all make in our youths.

Cheers, enjoy the music and I hope y'all had a good day skiing, if that's what you did, or climbing, or sleeping (had me a nice "long winter's nap").

Now I'm heading for AZ. Taking a magic bus.

When Iwas the scizzel, late '80s, I and maybe a very few others knew Prine's Name, in the motherland. . It was some sort of weird Woodstck /Dylan centric (sorryZ)in denial of all other great writing song men.thing.

I was not aware that you were not a complete Prine uphill! ummm no
Prineophile!
Well before that, the very best first album ever, he was a well recorded song writer,
I know you know that
!Any way this was, to me, the difinitive Prine Album his live 1988 album 'JOHN PRINE LIVE.'

I may be overly focused on that record for this other reason,
that a strange Crusher of a room mate , a climber with hair like Kauk's all prince Valiant and stuff.
made off with when I had no disc player to play it on (weirdly, also my Grham Parker!)

“Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that,”

...

“I’ve met Bob Dylan’s bodyguards, and if Steve Earle thinks he can stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table, he’s sadly mistaken,”

Point of fact, it wouldn't be that hard to stand on Dylan's table - Tommy Caldwell did it. The net? Well, Mother Superior jumped it.

Fractured LA Stories: Shaking Up the Gospel Truth

The Annunciation of the Good News to the Virginian Marry

When the angel Gabrealwell came to Marry the Virginian gal from Galilee
What sort of light did he spread with his wings?
hint: nobody knows

"Word becomes flesh after I say this, milady, someday to be Queen of Angels formerly known as Flesh Princess;
And may I say that the light in your eyes matches the blue in your hand-maiden cloak, did you know? It's so.
Here is the Word from Above so listen carefully.
HMMOGTLIWT, BATAWABITFOTW. Got it?"

"Say what? Stop talking like some Zimmerman mimic and give it to me straight. Am I still a virgin and/or will I be 'late?'
Explain that to me before you leave, if you can."

"Well, I can't because I don't know myself. I'm not much better than an elf when it comes to privileged information. I only got this job due to my chops on the trombone and my fine, mellifluous vocal skills. I didn't ask for this, like you didn't ask to be Mommy of the Messiah. I won't say anything about your assumption into Paradise, because you know nothing of Peabody Coal, a mining operation which puts Sol's mines to shame. But Paradise awaits, lemme tellya."

"THAT is not a very mellifluous thing to say, and your name doesn't match anything about you either, you initial-speaker. My Joe, who also calls me Milady, if he had better wood stocks hereabouts, he'd be making zithers instead of whittling drum sticks. We would be living high on the hog if we raised hogs in Galilee, but we are more partial to fish.

So I'll take the gig gladly because we need to go to Jerusalem. And I want my halo to have the same kind of light as your wings, dude...they're SO BEAUTIFUL! Want some water? I just drew it an hour ago...and Joe just replaced the handle on the well before I did...some vandals came and swiped it."

"No, thank you, milady. I must went."

"Are you from South Texas? You talk like it."

"I think you are getting ahead of the story, Marry. But my origin is in the Valley of Mexico, yes."

"Converso! I knew it!"

"Say what?"

"Mighty God sends some redneck converso to tell me this? You do have pretty wings, though."

Fade to blue.

I've wondered strange things, being a former student of catholicism who is more Cathar than Catholic, Truth Light vs. Truth Heavy.
Was the Queen of Angels a lefty?
What is her favorite Roy Orbison song?
Did she ever know John Prine's grandfather, the bank-builder?
Why are the beads strung when they could be put in a clear plastic case and made into something with which we REALLY LIKE TO PRAY & PLAY? You know the little goodies you get in a Christmas stocking as a "quality filler," unlike the COMMON ORANGE?
Oy!

Your correspondent, F.E. Gimlett, is also known as the hermit of Arbor-Villa.

He writes of the past "glory" days and nights of Leadville, Colorado (as opposed to THE Leadville, leading coffee-house of the West, known to Fritz the Boss of the Rancho of Choss Creek).

Herewith, this hermitic diatribe on the tribe of women who are apparently only supposed to be "homemakers" for their prey, er, mates. I do believe the man has spent too many nights alone and he carries his bitterness on his sleeve. It would look better dumped on his head or pissed into the jug beneath his lonely bed.

(N.A.H. is short for the Not At Home gang/society.)What would my cousin, Connie Jo, say to this dude? It would be nice to be the fly on the wall. You may remember my cousin, my mom's cousin, actually, who owned The Leadville in Ketchum, ID. She was a Berkeley gal, a wearer of the beat beret, and hip and wise and beautiful.

Pancho and Lefty put a bug in my ear. A gold bug, perhaps. Oftentime I've heard it said it would be just the same with a bug of lead.

Kindness is not in the vocabulary of many old westerners. Why they are so durn west stern is not beyond me, but don't speak here of the milk of human kindness.

Boom town gals won't you come out tonight and dance by the light of the moon?

What bedevils me is that I am intermittently reading Larry the McMurtry's collection of essays on life in the Old West, Sacajawea's Nickname.

He has special insights which seem to have escaped many, including the Arbor-Villain, Mr. Gimlett.

There are genii in that lamp, apparently. But nowhere else in sight.

Then and Now// is the title of a novel by W. Somerset Maugham about Niccolo Machiavelli and his attempt to rise in the world by being the tool of the Florentine signory, the city's ruling body. I am currently reading it and enjoying Maugham's take on Machiavelli's way of thinking.

Of course, most of us were told to read The Prince and that's the extent of our knowledge of this genius. The Renaissance seems to have abounded with geniuses, but it's not so. They were promoted much later by succeeding generations.

I found this to be a gem and the actors were very well-directed and it's all in all a good thing to watch on a foggy, drizzly night like this has been.
[Click to View YouTube Video]I'm about done in from all the rest I have been getting, nursing myself along with good lit and the occasional toke.
