Cotton won't be harvested till the fall, like in October. Both of those crops are growing inside the city limits, but not for too much longer.

The campus of UC Merced is just a hop and skip and fart away from this city limits sign, which is at Yosemite Avenue and Lake Road.

Since I moved to Merced, it has grown from just over 20,000 in 1961 to over, well, see for yourselves, observers.

I found out that my Explorer Post 98 brother, Peter Padilla, brother to Mickey and Joe, all of whom share rights to the cabin in Foresta, I guess, is running for the Merced City Council.

He was never Flames material anyway.

This doesn't belong on the Great Tractor thread, though a Kenny is a great tractor. The Flames have a bright future, I hope.

I have a climbing partner here now.

I'll call him Cotton-Eyed Joe for now until he's freakin' ready to strut his stuff.

Turn the page, Bob.

zBrown, are you a mole?
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/mexican-mole-sauce/

Should they ever whack a Mouse,
Skin me out and make some souse.

Mus musculus Souse

Original recipe makes one dinky loaf

Ingredients--

one whole mouse tongue

20 mature cucaracha antennae

a half-dozen hind legs from the same roaches, if possible

one finely chopped pearl onion (not from the bar jar!--fresh)

Reserve these 4 items together, separate from the rest of the ingredients.

Place tongue, cucarach antennae and legs and onions in a large enough stock pot; add water to cover. Season with salt, pepper, whole peppercorns, sage, cloves, bay leaves, pickling spice, garlic powder and vinegar. Bring to a boil, and cook until meat is cooked, about ten minutes.

one tiny almost non-existent smoosh of sea salt finely ground

shave a peppercorn's outer surface and use half the scrapings after crushing them just as fine as you can get them

break up one whole peppercorn and grind it with a spoon and use no more of the grindings than you can fit on the head of a pin

take one leaf of sage and gently blow on it into the mix of dry spices on your microscope slide

take one clove and split it in twain, do it again and use one of the sticks and crush the daylights out of it, then take the smallest ten grains and place them in the mix

drive to Yosemite Valley. Find a bay tree growing in the talus behind Camp 4. Take one leaf and ask the next Ranger you see if it's okay to use this in your food. Do as he recommends with the bay leaf. I'm not responsible for your fine.

OR skip that part and act like the dirtbagger you once were and just leave the park quietly.

When you get the magic bay leaf, only use the oil from the surface after heating it in the microwave a bit (your settings may vary, but I just 'wing it,' so be creative.

Pickling spice is tricky. I guess, look it up in Wiki, decide for yourself how you might like it or not, and if you do then use it in proportion to the rest of the ingredients. Borrow it from a neighbor. That should kill a few hours. Nobody stocks this stuff in their rack. I just use fresh dill, about one end of a dill thingie.

powdered garlic in proportion, like an nth-smidgeon or less, unless you really like powdered garlic

two drops of distilled vinegar

a great big roach from a fattie

Cookin'--

Take one small skinny pimento and divide it into hundredths then chop/smoosh one one-hundredth pimento part and add that in after the vinegar. Feel free to eat the rest in a nice salad.

Take one drained chopped pepperoncini pepper and perform the same task with it as with the pimento. Use the same exact amount. THIS IS DAMNED CRITICAL! Pepperoncini brand to use: Mezetta.

Vlasic dill pickle relish goes in next. Use guesswork, but don't overdo it.

As to unflavored gelatin, a little dab'll do ya.

Five to six drops of Fern Spring water. Nothin' else will do. You'll have to go back to the park, unless you were smart and read the whole recipe before you went charging off to cop some bay, or, like me stock it iin my Fridgidaire.

Place tongue, cucarachas' antennae and legs, togther with onions in a large enough stock pot; add water to cover. Season with salt, pepper, peppercorn, sage, clove, bay, pickling spice, garlic powder and vinegar. Bring to a boil, and cook until meat is cooked, about ten minutes.

Remove meat; set aside to cool. Strain broth, and measure a miniscule amount into another pot. Return broth to stove, and let simmer.

Leave the antennae as intact as possible. Place these aside. Remove gristle and fat from cucaracha legs, and combine with antennae. Cut off large portion of tongue and set aside. Trim loose meat from remainder of tongue, and combine with gristle and fat. Put these through a micro-grinder, then stir into broth; continue to simmer.

Slice tongue into thin strips, and place lengthwise into a loaf pan. They have this size at Walmart.* Slice antennae into thin strips (tedious--I know!), then cut the strips into pieces. Arrange the antennae pieces among the tongue strips. Place the pimiento and pepperoncini into the mold. Sprinkle with pickle relish.

Dissolve gelatin in water. Stir into the simmering broth. Carefully ladle (use a dropper or pipette) enough broth into the mold to completely cover the meat. Prod with a pin to uniformly distribute. Let stand 15 minutes, then cover with remaining broth. Allow to cool at room temperature, until it begin to jell, 2 to 3 hours. Refrigerate for 8 to 10 hours.

When cool, run an Ex-acto blade around the sides of the mold to release the souse. Remove any fat that has accumulated on the surface.

Take and smoke that fattie roach, but wash yur hands first. Then you'll have the munchies and want to try some of this head cheese.

Make sure you use only Mezetta pepproncini.

Eat the rest of the jar if the souse has not totally gelled.

*Mouse does not "Like" Walmart, but they had the pan on sale.

Well Ray Goedecke came home from a church camp late one night in 1964 and killed his father, mother and sister then went back to camp and returned the next day to "discover" the bodies. Went to San Quentin and was released in 1975 but killed a woman (who had befriended him in prison) in 1978. Eventually went back to prison on a plea deal and was released a second time in 1987.

Turns out this was just in time to attend his 25th (Hilltop High School, Chula Vista) reunion, which he did. Tom Waits has yet to write a song about this one.

I guess they don't write 'em like that anymore. Luke Stong? Never heard of the dude.

Amazingly, small-minded folks ignore this "Minnie-treat' in favor of giant cheeseburgers.

Or Supertacos.

Or Supersushi.

Or Superstition.

Do not let your cats hold your tongue, Mezetta-breath...

They can hold the fries, though.

I'll deliver gladly. Otay?

I operate deliveries in the continental US under the corporate guise of "musculardeliverstrees.com". The product comes in a cardboard container called a "Musbox." Patent pending.
The souse is a crowd-pleaser, but everyone has to share.

Zaks Mousehold Diner.
Mousehold Heath. Norwich. Norfolk. NR1 4HW.
Open each day - Noon till late.

Closing time is at the Managers discretion.

*Minnie Mouse loves a bit of tongue. She's half Norwegian, you know. (Ask the Chairman of the Board, who knows something about rats.)
