I offered that bum a ride, door to door even, but he declined.
I can kinda see why. 8 hours talking to me or 8 hours in the lap of luxury on Amtrak....

You're just envious because AmTrak doesn't go through Toquerville.
A lot goes on behind the scenes to make the FaceLift happen, much of which is barely visible. One being preparations for and running the evening events. Ken and Chicken Skinner Unlimited Enterprises stripped, cleaned, and triple waxed the auditorium floors this year, which made a huge difference. (Clever marketing, too...) Still, every day volunteers cleaned the auditorium and kitchen, brought in beer and supplies, got everything organized, and then served the sweaty masses starting at 6:30.
Here are two key individuals, Amy and Kelly from New Belgium, in the pouring area out back. The company provided 21 kegs of beer this year for the FaceLift, and in the end we used about 26 - they had to rush some in.
And here's one of the occupants of site 30 in Camp 4, early in the morning. Flanders, perky as ever. Just like old times.

How Doug can sit up like that after lying on stones all night and then get up smiling, is beyond me. I was barely able to do that when in my twenties.

We did our small part cleaning off all tat from Lost in America the week after face lift.
Figured out how to lower out from fixed gear with out leaving tat. 25' of 5mm - just run it through the fixed piece back to a carabiner on your harness and with a munter lower yourself off.
Leaves the route with out trash.
Also cleaned a bunch of deadheads off the route as well as any copperheads we did not use.

Our guy Tom, the mad bolter - the original, genuine mad bolter, that is. Tom Rohrer, being shy.

Ranger Heather Boothe, at the hantarchaeology training session at Yeller Pines. (Behind - an archaeologist whose name escapes me.) It was her birthday not long after the FL, too - she was heading for a week's holiday. Jesse, on the other hand, is soon to go off for LEO training (irreverently called "tool school" by a few malcontents) somewhere like North Carolina, for six months. Part of developing one's NPS career, apparently.
The FaceLift counts on help from NPS and DNC help to make it all work, and it's good to have peeps like Heather involved. Plus she gave us tee shirts and pins.
