Ya know what? I inherited my dad's golden retriever when he took the chop - they lived in Sabino Canyon.
It took me TEN DAYS to teach Bianca how to swim when she came to live with us in Mammoth.
A GOLDEN RETRIEVER WHO COULDN'T SWIM SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT BEING RAISED IN THE DESERT BY A PACK OF SNAKES!

Ha! 10 days!! That is some length of time for a dog. Those damn snakes.
I have an urge to post a photo of me doing a cartwheel on the beach of Venice this summer, but my rear end is kind of showing, and this IS the Taco... I think you know where I'm going with this. :)

We lived on Lower Twin Lake and she really needed to know how to swim. . . so I took her up to Horseshoe Lake (Upper Lakes Basin) at 9,100 feet (better beach than Twin). . . and we worked and worked and worked. . . it took me finally putting on my wetsuit and going in the water. . . I had a tennis ball (she was a good retriever - on land) and I'd throw it out in the water - then swim out and get it. . . she started getting the idea and would walk out in the water - but as soon as it got too deep to touch, she'd bound back to shore and bark and bark and bark.
SOOOOOOO. . . I'd go do it again. . .
FINALLY she went one step beyond her "touching" zone. . . I was out in the water coaching her. . . and when the weightlessness of it finally sunk in, I SWEAR THAT DOG SMILED AT ME. . .
The rest is history!
P.S. A N D . . . . oh yeah. . .
and this IS the Taco... I think you know where I'm going with this. :)

Here's an oldie but a goodie... No rear end showing... my first attempt at learning to surf in San Clemente... (I had a f*@king blast, and wasn't as afraid as I thought I'd be! As my son said when I told him I attempted to surf, he said, "Of course you did, I'm not surprised. You'll try anything.")
