galen "machine man" kirkwood bustin' a two-move B1 in his tennies, 1976, mission gorge, san diego, califoria.

tried this thing last christmas, after hiking all the standard 70's and '80's hardman routes at woodson. couldn't even sniff the f*#kker. gorge climbing is wierd.

Little Egypt sure is a nice out of the way spot. That route left of the climber above, in the green tortise shell patina is pretty sweet. A smart feller would work it so they got to lead the second pitch through those plates.

Mr Kirkwood is still bouldering, he's just sporting a new hairdo, seen here at an eastside locale thats rather more overexposed than Lil Egypt.

thought there was a little eastside crag a bit outback named Heaven...

...but maybe I got the name wrong or am thinking about another universe... underneath Mt. Humphrey.

great shot of a classic route, randy. used to do that thing 5 or six times a year.....always thought that huge block was solid.

then again, always thought the apron was the safest place in the valley, too..

can't ever really go home again, can we?

Forest Service employees had a badminton (sp?) court up there by the 3rd fin... complete with wine glasses, picnic table, and all the accoutrements for a fine time. Not us... just a ratty tent and 'spro machine.

Chick Dead, Dog Killed It is the route you guys probably did. Doug McDonald is on Jungle in the pic.
