-32F in Fairbanks, wavering around from -38F an hour or two ago. But it's a dry cold. Haven't yet seen -40 this winter.

Yes, Fairbanks. I've been waiting for a cold snap, finally here, so we can hunker down and be cozy, or venture outside for some character building. Last year it didn't get to -30F, rarely even -20F, but now we're somewhat back on track. The good side of these temps is that after this -20F will seem only a bit cool, 0F balmy. The downsides include propane not working (need to put a blanket on the tank), a bit hard on the car, ... can't think of other downsides...

Probably not going to happen this time, but in the past we've had deep cold replaced the next day with chinook air, something like 70 or 80F difference overnight.

Not sure what 20-25 mph winds on the ridge calculate out for the windchill.

But the snow is absolutely epic, so put on another layer and go ski.

Hunkering down is for hurricanes and hangovers, not cold spells and 30" of pow.

CALCULATION EDIT:

Right about where it's best not to whip out your weiner to pee for too long.
