Munginella and about half of my hexes pulled out, luckily after slinging a tree, after I pulled aggressively on the rope for slack. Rob my belayer started laughing and heckling me. That was just his style. Damn we were having fun that day.

S'mores are not a great snack idea when changing leads and
have to admit sage brush fired marshmellows are horrible.

Grizzly Crack at Indian Springs just west of Donner Summit, 5.7. My wife (girlfriend at that time) didn't think she could do the 2nd pitch; but I told her it would be ok. It's next to the freeway and the river. The second pitch arcs back toward the mountain. She could not see or hear me at the end of the second pitch, so I just yarded up the rope. She followed. When I could finally hear her, it was my name mixed with four letter words.

All I said was "good job babe!" She didn't speak to me for half an hour.

Then, as we were hiking down, she said "that was pretty cool".

My first lead was an un-named 5.9 at the Sex Wall in Pennsylvania in the early/mid-nineties. I distinctly remember fumbling the clip/dropping the rope three times. Thought I was gonna die.

My first time out climbing was at High Rocks in Ralph Stover State Park in 1992. A 5.7 called Gorilla. Changed the course of my life.

Portent @ Pinnacles...was so stoked! Wow my first real lead!! I put my partner on belay...Me: "Dave you are on belay" (I'm giving myself a nice mental pat on the back)...Dave: Dude you need to pull up the rest of the rope!" Guess I got a little too excited.

Bishop's Terrace, Church Bowl, Yosemite Valley, November 1970 but it could have been Baxter's Pinnacle the summer before in the Tetons. The memory is becoming blurred. But Bishop's Terrace was my first "satisfying" 5.8 crack lead.

High E. All three pitches.

My partner had done it a week before and recommended it to me.

When I got to the top I thought I was hot stuff and when I leaned over to look at my partner while I was bringing him up there was a guy cruising up Doubleissima.

Had to recalibrate.
