Fear not, Eastslidaz, by tomorrow snow levels will plummet!
Warm air advection (del dot T) dominates today as we sit on the eastern side of the baroclinic trough in the warm air conveyor belt side.
Thermal wind is to blame for this. Mrrrggggg at least it makes the snow nice and sticky so we can ride steep icy lines with style!
Yikes!
Never fear, once the thermal wind commences cold air advection we are money in the bank:

The downside of snow falling in the PNW is the camoflauge provided the snowbacks sneaking into the US to get free healthcare..Build the fence! .. RJ

snowing lightly here in Hilton crk , a angry couple of inchs so far, after copoious amounts of rain last night. I'll bet the upper elevations got hammered. Those north facing exposures with bullet-proof old snow and a few feet of the wet/heavy......hmmmmmmm.......

Dean- that month long cold is going around, you're not the only one.
I thought I was done with it, but I spent the night with fever last night.
It's nice to finally see some weather though. Raining in Bishop this morning, with a few flakes thrown in to keep it interesting.

2 feet at June Mtn?!?
Squaw Valley reports 6" new this morning at 8200'. We got a whopping, soggy 1/2" at 5000' in Portola.
I'm jealous.

Thanks for the update Dean. We will be over there this weekend. Can't wait to get on the ice.
I can believe it Cleo, it was getting cold at Arch Rock yesterday afternoon. We got about 8 inches here in Slowona.

Got 8" of pure powder here at the house last night in about 2 hours! Dean, this is about the scariest thing you've ever posted. You getting excited about a meager 8" overnight!
Most years that would only be a dusting.
Seriously, is the tramway ice still In?

I hope the wind doesn't blow the snow off Mammoth mtn:( nothing like having freshies only then to get blown away.
Heading up tomorrow in hopes of finding some decent stashes.

We had about 5 cm of wet snow last night in Vancouver, which is a bit unusual this late in the winter. It's mostly melted now. Lots of lovely powder on the local mountains.
