Probot has been getting lots of play on my ipod lately. Not a fan of Foo Fighters, and can only take Nirvana in small doses, but Dave Grohl is a pretty talented dude, played almost all the instruments on that Probot album.

Interesting...no mention of Iron Butterfly here.
Arguably, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was the first heavy metal album [or so thinks whoever wrote the Wikipedia entry on Heavy Metal], pre-dating Black Sabbath's first album by a couple of years.

If you like metal, check out Mastodon.
Opeth and Mastodon are (in my mind) the best metal bands of the last twenty years. No one else even comes close. Got to see Opeth live in Denver a couple months ago. Absolutely f*#king amazing.

I remember this great Henry Rollins interview, and he was talking about how f*#king scary early Sabbath was. And it was scary. I started listening to Sabbath at the time I started really listening to rock -- 1971 or so -- it made me feel wierd and creeped out, in a good way. I think Off White turned me onto them; I remember listening to 'em on his Dad's incredibly plush high-end old school stereo.
