One of my friends, also a climber, used to play an original Mossman that he replaced with a Taylor after the Mossman met with an unfortunate demise.

I just sold a KC-20, a solid Koa Taylor (man, that thing was Beautiful!). Upgraded to a Santa Cruz guitar. All I can say is Whoa!
I fished out an older Taylor off eBay, Serial #1781, made in the early '80s. It's 710 that has a three-piece back. One of the nicest Taylor's I've heard.

Love my 514ce. I don't think that spruce tops can come close to a cedar top. There's just so much warmth in a good cedar top.

I'd have to agree with you on that...love the cedar.
Sometimes even the best guitars can sound bad though. I bought an early 70's Hummingbird that I ended up getting rid of because the sound just didn't do it for me - I was happier playing my low end Kay.

Ron,
Funny story on my Takamine. I played several of them back when they first came out, but couldn't afford one. Flash forward 30 years and one night on a whim I decided to look at ebay. Lo and behold, this Takamine was listed like 10 minutes ago. I emailed the seller and just said name your "buy it now"price........
I got this in near pristeen condition w/ original hsc for less than $400!

Nice Robb. Wish I still had mine, if I ever find one in good shape for a good price, I'd buy it. the F-400S is a great guitar.

Personally love my taks, but taylors are nice.
My pride and joy is a J15-E - supposedly only about 200 in the US; it's an acoustic archtop with an amazing voice. I fell in love with it in some broken down music store out near J-tree, and foolishly wavered on buying it. Called them as soon as I got home and it was sold, spent the next two years tracking one down.

Picked up this the other day. 30th year Anniversary Taylor. Mahogany/Cedar, Grand Concert size, plays and sounds like a gem.

Forever ago, I owned this beautiful Taylor. Hated to sell it, but couldn't justify keeping it. It was an 810ce with cocobolo back/sides. Maple wedge. Dug around and found these from when I listed it.
It didn't have the punch I wanted, and I ended up with this instead from crafters of Tennessee. Not as easy to play, but so much tone/volume.

I heard you got the gorgeous guitar back BEFORE I was able to put a hug on her! So glad it is in great hands again...hopefully getting played!?
Just couldn't pass on this gem, it was calling me and the one I went in to buy was sold the day before, so figured it was destiny. I love the slot head, the Waverley's are a work of art in themselves. Not a mark on it and when I contacted Taylor, said never registered...warrenty bingo.

Willie Nelson's guitar is classic. I love a guitar with some scratchy character.
Look at old pictures of Roy Buchanan's telecaster. If he had been alive for the past 20 years, that tele would be worn through.
A buddy who is a plumber found an old 1960's era Gibson acoustic under a house 25 years ago. He brought it to the woman he was working for and she said it was her deceased son's. Because he was a guitar player and she knew him for many years, she told him to please take it. He later sold it to me for $2000. Out of state now, so don't remember the model. Has a deep tone which I love.
I bought an Alvarez Yairi back in the 70's. It was a copy of a Martin and really plays nice. A few years in the dry climate of Alaska tweeked the neck and I have had it worked on a few times. Beautiful abalone inlays front and back, it also has deep tones. Does not have much resale value, but I wouldn't sell it anyhow. My brother's kids are now using it for practice.
My new next door neighbor in San Diego works for Taylor guitars and has offered a tour of their factory. I will take him up on it soon.

I took the tour of the factory several years ago, more interested in the making of guitars in general (not specifically Taylors). It was interesting to see some of the hi and low-tech ways these things are made. I still have my beat up big baby, built back before they shipped production of that model to Mexico.
Recently ran into a gent that works for Taylor in sales (I think). Guy was big, like 6'6" or something. We were discussing how they've recently adjusted the bracing (at least on the nicer dreadnoughts) to give them more boom. If that's the case, that's good news. He also mentioned that the same guys that did goretex did the coatings on strings like elixirs (if memory serves). Fun fact.
It would be sweet if we could all afford a boutique guitar, but unfortunately the trust-fund runneth low for some of us. The only way I could afford the beast I picked up, was because some jerk let it dry out a bit and get a crack in the top. Even used/repaired, I could have picked up a new Taylor for what I paid for it. No way could I have thrown down the 8 or 9 grand it would have cost brand new.
