With great appreciation and gratitude to all our military men and women, past and present, on this day and every day.

Thank you lynne.
My family created a great bond with the Dunkels while we rented the lower level of their home in Echternach.I am fortunate to have grabbed a hand full of images from our stay with them most have been lost. Here's another image that Jean Dunkel shot of the American liberation/occupation of Echternach Luxembourg during that period in WWI.

With much sadness I bump this thread.

Sgt. Jeffrey C. S. Sherer, 29, of Four Oaks, N.C.; died June 2, in Zabul province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Sgt. Sherer coming home.

Sgt. Sherer was platoon sergeant for a very young and close friend of mine. My young buddy is OK but was involved at the scene.

Prayers going out to the family and friends of Sgt. Sherer.

The caption on o-man's photo, reversed and translated, says "Echternach 10: The Americans, Our Liberators, Thanksgivingday". It must have been taken in November 1918, just after the armistice.

The signs on the shops in the background are right way round, though.
