Mimi and I visited Bonnie Prudden a couple of weeks ago and she told the story about the FA of Bonnie's Roof again.
After having gotten scooped on the lead she recalled that Hans grumbled about the NS angle after cleaning the pitch. "Dat vus not there ven I came up."

Did Dick Hirschland's have another daughter? Dorothy ? Lived in Wilson, Wyo?

Interesting tip on that pin. That was obviously intentional as part of the design . The sheet steel blank would have to be cut with a shallow V on the end before being folded or it was ground or cut afterwards.
That detail distinguishes it from any other angle piton I've ever seen.

I am as curious as TC on any relation to Dorthy Hirschland in Wilson because that opens up a entire history book on Wilson in the 60s.

Dorothy Hirschland (RIP) was Dick's wife from a later marriage. Mother of twins George and Liz Hirschland. Lived in the Gunks and Jackson Hole area. She was my neighbor in the Gunks in the late 60's.

Looks very much like a Chouinard Angle.
No, the Shooo e nerd angle looks very much like a Diamond Peninsula Angle (Salathe) which looks very much like the angle above.
The Guy with the big rep in ventura, was very good at marketing, note that when Tom Frost and he parted ways, there was little news from Ventura, that did not come earlier, and better, from somewhere else.
Note that even the logo, the famed diamond C, was a rip off of Salathe's Diamond S..
edit: and don't even think that an LA is made in Ventura, they are made by Camp in Italy by the Curtoni Family.
edit 2: not that i have anything to say about american marketing and the intelligence of the consumer, or their ability to be bilked!
go buy allen A long underwear, its the same stuff! Malden Polarfleece, or patagucci "synchilla?" marmot cut it better, sewed it better, i helped Wilderness Experience to pioneer drop pockets, Forrest pioneered fleece use in mountainwear... but people bought the exact same fabric, cut shorter, harder to move in, not sewn as well, and for more money, because they thought it was better... dumb.

I was just down in Tucson visiting Bonnie's longtime assistant and discovered to my delight that Norton made more than one size of this piton design.
I saw a smaller size and presumably he also made one bigger than 3/4" too which I have yet to encounter.
