My wife and I are going to Joshua Tree for the first time and I had ordered a copy of this book in anticipation. Worried that it might not be released in time for our trip, I wrote K Daniels to confirm the release date and Kevin Daniels wrote back:

i have an extra advanced copy i will send you this week. it is one of five...i know you will like it

and then when I thanked him for the amazing customer support, he wrote back:

i dont always get it right but i try.

He was 100% right on both counts...he got it right and we love it. Easily the most attractive, informative and compelling guide book we have ever seen. Stunning!

For anyone interested in Joshua Tree, this guide is a must have...even if many of the routes are known from Randy Vogel's other (awesome) guidebooks, this is something special.

Thank you for the positive feedback on the Classics Guide, and am glad you were able to get one of the advance copies. Guides should start arriving in stores around March 4 or so.

Kevin was great to work with on this guide and no-one else would have put out such a lavish project. In some cases, 4 or 5 pages were taken up on just 1 or 2 routes or problems, with topos, descriptions, descents, gear, historical accounts, sun/shade info and multiple large color shots.

After you "field-test" it, I'd would appreciate any feedback.

Here is a link to a thread with more info and pictures from the guide for anyone interested:

I do question the need for another $40+ guide to Joshua tree.

There certainly a saturation of J-Tree guides.

because the last 'comprehensive' guide was put out in 92. Things have changed a bit since then.

Josh is unique in that some people will want to know about every route out there, others will want to know about the good ones, and other still will just want to go bouldering/hit the top 100 routes. The west/central/east guides will be cool to losers like me that want to know every wrinkle, others that are traveling or just coming through will dig the 2011 guides, those who are traveling on a shoestring can nab the white classics guide, and your parents can get the 60 classics.

So? As the buyer, your're the one voting with his wallet, credit card, checkbook, etc.

The "market" obviously hasn't been saturated so far...

GDavis...my comments were not aimed at you, since you posted about the same time I did...
