yeah, anders... that'll remain a major problem until, well, the last Bluefin is gone.
In my mind the Bluefin epitomizes what the massive demand for a certain fish can have on the fishery. Japan is right smack in the middle of that. The price will go up and up until the price per pound is greater than the price of gold. Don't laugh...
So you get two sides of that story. One side says all fisheries will be gone in 50 years. Another side says that they are confident their fishery is sustainable. Canada, Alaska, Hawaii lead the way.
OF course with some fisheries like Salmon where the little fishes swim all the way over to Japan (and back if they are lucky) it's almost a moot point.
I guess someone needs to go over there and get all Seth Jackson on them.

Good question Doug.
Actually mercury content in Hawaiian water's hasn't changed much in over 25 years. Reason being industry in Hawaii is still at a minimum. Other than that check out the article below. It talks about Mercury and Selenium. Very interesting stuff.

read the selenium link.
apparently all the hoopla on mercury in fish is missing out on some important information.
and we should keep it consistent - baked, fried, broiled, BBQ'd, or sushi. it doesn't matter. Fish.
