Josh Wharton and Nate Opp are en route to the Choktoi Glacier in the Karakorum. This will be Josh's fourth attempt and Nate's first on the North Ridge of Latok 1.

Send it!

Nate and Josh teamed up with Whit Magro for the wave effect in Patagonia. Whit was planning on climbing with Josh and Pennings, alas he has a infant daughter and a one year old son. Kim, his spouse, wasn't too keen.

Nate is one solid dude. He is a ski patroller at Big Sky, guides Denali each season and has worked a stack with Jackson Hole Mountain Guides. As an understudy of the master Greg Collins he gets after it without talking about it. Super solid.

My favorite Nate story is he started freaking out the TSA as they swiped his clothing and traces of explosives came up. It was a three alarm tool fest and he stood there answering questions (they didn't ask if he worked with explosives - he does with his avalanche control work). They had him under under suspicion. Eventually he commented on his profession and they let him through. 'I was just following instructions', was his view of the ordeal.

That is awesome! Can he put one of his t-shirts in a sealed ziplock bag for me? I will pay and will promise to wear it every time I pass thru an airport.

Charge em guys!

Strange.

I was thinking the opposite Will, "Where can I get phony ski patrol credentials?"

That photo of the seracs and the Chuck Yeager like "fully engaged" comment is beyond us mortal humans.

Jim,
My good friend Todd Cantor from San Diego climbed with you in the Black Canyon about 10+ years ago and he just raved about what a great experience he had with you.
