I just tried it on an old post, and you're right Blinny.

Well.
I guess now we figured out how someone was bumping the topics a while back - and today - without actually posting.
Weird that it reposts the topic after deletion, though.

Bug in the system?

Why would you go through and delete your old posts? It just makes those threads really confusing when there are a bunch of posts missing.

At the very least, it would be could if a deleted post resulted in a one-line post that said "post deleted" or somesuch

Chris really should do something about that--I suggested having the edit/delete button disappear after about 2 weeks.

You can find out who is bumping the threads by doing a google search using a unique phrase in the thread. Then click on the "cached" version of the thread (in google), then compare the current version with the cached, and whichever ones are missing were deleted by the culprit!

Can someone confirm that he is indeed the one doing it?

So how do you get to the "cached version" in Google?

DOH!! I just figured it out. The word "cached" threw me off. Now just gotta
figure out who the !@#$%^& fuçker is...

Check the differences between these two threads in the "South Lake Tahoe bouldering guide"

This is the original thread

This is the one with the deleted posts.

Thus the culprit is revealed, ha ha ha

Thanks Werner, I'm checking more threads to verify.

I'm making a list, but it's slow going. Please list the threads here.

So far I only have AKutzer for the Messner thread.

Edit: It looks like it is AKutzer. Not sure if this is a deliberate attempt to
hijack the forum, or if he simply wants to delete all of his posts for some reason.

I am asking you to stop––both here and private e-mail––as it is making the forum unusable for the rest of us.
I have e-mailed the forum creator/programmer and asked if he can alter the code so that
deleted threads do not bump old threads. So please stop at least until he can respond
one way or another. Thanks.

Kath –– it's kind of a big deal when virtually all of the threads on the front page are
only there because someone is deleting a whole bunch of old posts. I have to ask: Why?

I will give the benefit of doubt and assume it is not for malicious purposes,
but the fact remains that it is making the forum pretty much unusable for the rest of us.
Clearly this needs to be addressed on a programming level––it shouldn't work this way.

Now that the perp has been outed, further deletions might be construed as malicious.
Why would anyone continue –– knowing what an unpleasant mess they're making?

You should be able to delete as long as you like. It just shouldn't update the last updated field (which is probably what's sorting it to the top).

I bumped an old one on purpose - the dirtbag picts. But i'm sure ya'll are smart enough to have figured that out. I am guilty though of deleting my 'bump' post in that thread.

It is beer:thirty now isn't it?!?!

Burying current threads by bumping old threads a big deal?

Kath you're missing the point - the thing about DELETING your post is it bumps the thread it's in to the head of the forum. If you want to go back and delete stuff you wrote, just hit the edit button, erase what your wrote and write DELETED in your post. Thus your words are gone but you didn't change the nature of the thread and thus you don't f*#k up the entire board by changing the thread cause of a deletion. Which is what he did. Not to mention people responded to stuff he wrote in some of those threads so it also screws up the nature of the threads to have people responding to things where you have no idea what the person said that they were responding to.

Yeah, it's nitpicking but it's also f*#king annoying to see all these month old posts clogging up the first two pages cause ONE person decided for whatever reason to delete things he wrote. I'm with Hardman on this one.

What gives AK???

Hmmpphh. Light a fire Dave. Don't succumb to climatic affective disorder.

OK. I will resist the urge to go back a few years and delete multiple posts.

Time for a cold one.
