Bruce,
According to the 1971 Ascent, Andy Lichtman and Chuck Ostin climbed the Slot Machine free in 1962 -- seven years before the reported FA in the Green Roper Guide.

Don't be fooled by the photo. The angle was very low. As I recall, we downclimbed the right side unroped.

I remember that when Paul and I freed the "Slot Machine" that it was really quite easy. Paul even mentioned that the guys who did the FA should have been able to easily free it without aid. No matter. However, it was a really fun climb in a nice location in October with plenty of sun and nice views. Seemed like it should be very popular. That's what guidebooks do: one mistake and a semantic error is perpetuated forever.

No photos, Steve. But I remember the Slot Machine was a whole lotta fun and the location couldn't be beat. Not a move on it above 5.9. Remember there were late blooming wildflowers up there next to the crack. Maybe it'll become popular when the new guide appears? No reason why not.

Well, the location and views can't be beat (plus 5.9 rating). If one party does it and reports back, more will follow in their footsteps. There was a little dirt, but two or three ascents would get rid of that.
