thrusting one man bands from down under into the spotlight
Juzzie Smith - Train Ride
https://youtu.be/4J23ysR3jXc
IN QUIET OBSESSION
Alone at the end of my cord now
almost giving in but not, still refusing to
not letting it get to me not held by depression,
old age staring back from the mirror
I hang dependant on those who would deny my existence
I no longer know who they are and they say that they don't know me
I took a life's path away from there,
took a different trail, bushwacked the way
away from where I had the cold stone wired
from where other's opinions mattered
finding the fun of it is really the exploration
the finding good stone, new rock to climb
finding that there is good rock everywhere
going up the road of life looking
going exploring for fresh climbing
looking for new rock
finding new things to climb up
Finding good rock here
at the side of the long road home
has been fun and rewarding
I've hankered to protest
to jest
to climb a bit in this new welted form.
My feet don't do it happily any more
not worth the pain from a day of a short hundred feet
I still have it, the obsession; the gnawing
A need to go and give it a look-see
to go explore that contour
still feel the need to retreat into the cathedral
A need to document now because back when
then no one did
More to the point We will remain Un-sung ~
Our Diquent youth is preserved!
Not that anyone was climbing there
Climbing in NJ is again banned!

worm pembroke
twas this chap was always broke
who always wore a silver cloak
we called him worm that was no joke
our every idea with holes he’d poke
while scratching at some poison oak
the worm finished his artichoke
and then leaned in to light a smoke
turning away to cough and choke
he was after all the kind of bloke
who said stay awhile and have a toke
twas all in the way he often spoke
that classic need to pause and evoke
on classical music but never baroque
before heading to the loo to soak
in obligatory lines of coke
for he fancied he would oft invoke
an argument that’s how he spoke
an antagonist at every stroke
the worm did relish to unyoke
our reveries his masterstroke
twas a chap was always broke
we called him worm that was no joke
till years went by and he did provoke
the powers that be to cool his stoke
and snuff him with a massive stroke

I was and I went - I saw and I sent
rock called to me, I could depend on it,
permanence enticed me,
I could return again and again
finding the same thing
I got to share in the climbing
doing some of the earliest accents
of now-classic lines
Too - also, I bathed In far-flung streams and springs
shared magic places, sang songs of our own
experienced Oasis
and went trippin' to the oasis
of the group mind of rock climbing
I climbed and partied with many of the best that ever were
as Galen said, we knew we were lucky
-taking off from real life, at least for a while,
there would a comeuppance for all the up cometh
(if we lived long enough)
getting to drive into ends of the canyons, getting blitzed too
All metaphors; we all slept in the dirt
bellow objectives we tried to send in a non-stop long day
Rocks and mountain chains we have in common
redemption, Validation only Good Yo-Yo`s
Only good Yo-yos Ever Needed to go
so only good Yo-yos ever applied
Only the good Yo-yos went to those places

Too much of nothing
Can make a man feel ill at ease
One man's temper might rise
While another man's temper might freeze
In the day of confession
We cannot mock a soul
Oh, when there's too much of nothing
No one has control
Say hello to Valerie
Say hello to Vivian
Give them all my salary
On the waters of oblivion
When there's too much of nothing
It can 'cause a man to weep
He can walk the streets and boast like most
Of what it's like to keep
But it's all been done before
It's all written in the book
And when there's too much of nothing
Nobody should look
Say hello to Valerie
Say hello to Vivian
Give them all my salary
On the waters of oblivion
And too much of nothing
Can make a man a liar
It can 'cause one man to sleep on nails
It can 'cause others to eat fire
Everybody's doin' somethin'
I heard it in a dream
But when there's too much of nothing
It just makes a fella mean
Say hello to Valerie
Say hello to Vivian
Give them all my salary
On the waters of oblivion

Over the years the deformity has taken on a sort of strange set of symptoms.
thick callused' 'hoods' of skin overlapping the base of the toenail
that then after being in hot tight sweaty shoes for a few hundred feet of climbing softens-up and rubs raw(ish)
This spot softens and tears, a 'micro-flapper', leaving a small 'avulsion'
I get a 'nasty hole' in the top edge of my little toe where the nail meets the thick callus.
(thinking of adding a picture, this thread needs pictures)
I've been tied to a rope from the time that I could almost walk; at the age of 3 or 4.
by 5 I was climbing, at 8 swinging leads in a sort of way; taking the last 10-40 feet.
leading off the top of things, even setting the rap.

Open All Night",
https://youtu.be/niksPOOUcgM
Lyrics:
Well, I had the carburetor, baby, cleaned and checked
With her line blown out she's hummin' like a turbojet
Propped her up in the backyard on concrete blocks
For a new clutch plate and a new set of shocks
Took her down to the carwash, check the plugs and points
Well, I'm goin' out tonight, I'm gonna rock that joint
Early north Jersey industrial skyline
I'm a all-set cobra jet creepin' through the nighttime
Gotta find a gas station, gotta find a pay phone
This turnpike sure is spooky at night when you're all alone
Gotta hit the gas, baby, I'm running late
This New Jersey in the mornin' like a lunar landscape
Now the boss don't dig me, so he put me on the night shift
It takes me two hours to get back to where my baby lives
In the wee wee hours your mind gets hazy
Radio relays towers, won't you lead me to my baby
Underneath the overpass, trooper hits his party light switch
Good night, good luck, one, two power shift
I met Wanda when she was employed
Behind the counter at Route 60 Bob's Big Boy
Fried chicken on the front seat, she's sitting in my lap
We're wiping our fingers on a Texaco road map
I remember Wanda up on scrap metal hill
With them big brown eyes that make your heart stand still
Hoo hoo, whoa!
Ha!
Oh now, hey
Well at 5 a.m. oil pressure's sinking fast
I make a pit stop, wipe the windshield, check the gas
Gotta call my baby on the telephone
Let her know that her daddy's coming on home
Sit tight, little mama, I'm a-coming around
I got a three more hours but I'm covering ground
Your eyes get itchy in the wee wee hours
Sun's just a red ball rising over them refinery towers
Radio's jammed up with gospel stations
Lost souls calling long distance salvation
Hey mister deejay won't you hear my last prayer
Hey ho rock 'n roll deliver me from nowhere
Hey da da di da, di da da
Oh hey da da di da, di da da
Oh hey da da di da, di da da

- Ghost of Tom Joad
https://youtu.be/n-mq0uJ7rlM
Lyrics
Men walking 'long the railroad tracks
Going someplace, there's no going back
Highway patrol choppers coming up over the ridge
Hot soup on a campfire under the bridge
Shelter line stretching 'round the corner
Welcome to the new world order
Families sleeping in the cars in the southwest
No home, no job, no peace, no rest
Well the highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kidding nobody about where it goes
I'm sitting down here in the campfire light
Searching for the ghost of Tom Joad
He pulls a prayer book out of his sleeping bag
Preacher lights up a butt and he takes a drag
Waiting for when the last shall be first and the first shall be last
In a cardboard box 'neath the underpass
You got a one-way ticket to the promised land
You got a hole in your belly and a gun in your hand
Sleeping on a pillow of solid rock
Bathing in the city's aqueduct
Go!
Well the highway is alive tonight
Where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sitting down here in the campfire light
Waiting on the ghost of Tom Joad
Now Tom said, "Mom, wherever there's a cop beating a guy
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me, Mom, I'll be there
Wherever somebody's fighting for a place to stand
Or a decent job or a helping hand
Wherever somebody's struggling to be free
Look in their eyes, Ma, and you'll see me"
Yeah!
The highway is alive tonight
Where it's headed everybody knows
I'm sitting down here in the campfire light
With the ghost of old Tom Joad
