Topic Author's Original Post - Oct 25, 2008 - 12:46am PT
OUCH! was my dad. My name is Allie and I am his daughter. I am very saddened to tell his friends on this forum the news that he passed away last week. I have helped my mom (yes...that is the two of them at Yosemite in the photo posted here previously)with all of his paperwork and it was quite apparent that he wanted some of you on this forum to know...when the time came. Apologies for taking the mystery out of it for some of you... : )...Damn...he was good...but I want him to be remembered by as many people as possible because the world was a much better place with him in it.

You probably have no idea the great gift you gave...when you shared bits of your life with him. I thank you for that more than you can possibly know. He lived the type of life you live now ...and trust me when I say that he did it all...until he could not do it any longer...and then he continued to live it through you all. Amazing...that he was so fortunate to have found you...and that you took him on so many trips with you...because that is indeed what you did.

I would like anyone who would like to take this offline to email me at the address at the bottom. I will answer any questions you may have & if there is anything you can share with me about my dad that you think would make me smile...I would love to hear it because that is what his specialty was. He was a great man and will be missed by all that have known him. I will also check back to this forum tonight and tomorrow. I am not comfortable being on here other than for this weekend...This forum and what came from it was all his....

My deepest and most sincere gratitude to the friends of OUCH!
You will be in my heart forever...for giving the most important person in my family's world an aspect of his life back that no one else could. He was one of a kind...

This...is....the...worst....of...news.

So sad tonight, all of a sudden.

The work and energy you gave us was some of the best. Thanks, Ouch, and Allie for caring enough to let us know.

I am very saddened to hear of the death of our impish friend, who brought many LOLs to the world of SuperTopo. We will miss him sorely, and you and all Ouch!'s family have our condolences.

As you are part of Ouch!'s family, so are you part of the SuperTopo family. You are welcome to visit us here as long as you wish, and we would be happy to hear more. Many of us have speculated about the true identity of Ouch!, and so if you feel it would be right, please tell us a bit about him. Stories and photos are all welcome, also why he felt drawn to our zany little world, and Yosemite. If there is a memorial, it's possible that local SuperTopians may attend, and we'd all like to see anything that may be published in the paper about Ouch!

You may see many many posts to this thread over the next fews days and more, from all those who've enjoyed Ouch!'s humour and art. So don't go away soon!

You can always send photos by e-mail, and we'll post them for you. Possibly with #46 added, of course.

Anders

I believe this is the photo that Ouch!'s daughter refers to.

Your Dad was the greatest. I was the brunt of many of his cartons but I never felt insulted.

I'm at a loss for words. Ouch was the best. I don't think I have laughed harder at anyone else's wit. What a great man. I would love to know his real story.

Allie, I know he was a private man, but whatever you care to share with us, we would appreciate. He brought a lot of joy with him. And please check in longer then the weekend. We will need time to deal with this.

Ouch is the man. We were blessed to have him. I will miss his pictures of cornbread and sliced tomatoes. They always made me smile.

wow...

like LEB, I, too, had an erie feeling regarding your dad. He and I shared many many emails about life in the southeast, and I am more than honored to have been the subject of many of his - ah - renderings!!

Sam is/was a special man and will always have a dear place in my heart. My condolences and sincere sympathy to you and your family at this difficult time...

You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and I will forever be grateful for the smiles - and guffaws - that your father brought to my life... He is not one easily forgotten...

Dear Allie;

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your Dad's passing. He was certainly one of the most memorable posters on ST and we are blessed to have been part of his life, much less a return to a world he thought he may not have had the chance to share in again. It was our honour to have him as part of the family here.

While it saddens me to hear that he has left us all, my heart particularly goes out to you, your mother and the rest of your family. Please accept my condolences for your and our loss.

RIP Ouch! You will be remembered.

The Taco will be dimmer without the light that OUCH! shone.

To click on a thread that OUCH! started, or contributed to, was a journey into a world of creativity that most will not know or understand.

Fortunately, the memory of OUCH! is permanently etched into the annals of Supertopo history--search his avatar infinitely so that his soul and spirit remains alive.

Is this really true? I am deeply deeply saddened. I will miss him..I will miss his new art, his humor, his feistiness. Who will call me Darlin', i loved it when he called me that. I loved saying ~Yellerpines ~. I loved thinking about him fooling us and peaking at us in Yeller pines. I loved the Mystery....I loved Ouch.

No!

They say "unique" doesn't have a superlative. But Ouch was the uniquest. He added more personality, more creativity, more zing to this campfire than any five of the rest of us.

Thank you, and I'm so sorry.

Let me add that none of them will say this, but many of these tributes (not mine, for sure!) are written by very famous, even legendary rock climbers and mountaineers. Your father had -- has -- friends in high places.
