The date has been set.

This one should be a sellout.

Yes they will be charging, not sure how much but who cares. How many times you gonna see a Layton Kor show?

I probably can't make it, but I'll be helping him out with obtaining the best medical care in this neck of the woods. Please don't ask, I'm not qualified to discuss it.

So yes, please, somebody SHOULD video it.
Gary Neptune already said that all the proceeds go to the man, so even if its $20 you should give 'em a Grant and not ask for change.

Hell, if everyone who has enjoyed his routes contributed the cost of the last two pieces of hardware they dropped and lost then at least the COST of his medical would not be a concern.
Unfortunately it is.

Wow, that will be great.

Hopefully Layton will be willing to sign my copy of his book.

Thanks for setting it up.

WOW!

Slide show and perhaps conversation over drinks afterwards?....

I'm not sure Layton drinks alcohol but it would be nice if we (the locals) organized some sort of book signing and socializing afterwards. Gary and his band of pirates have probably thought about this already. Very cool!! There aren't many of his type left.

Is there any chance of Mr. Kor making a California appearance?

The credit lies elsewhere John Mac. Mostly Gary and Jim McCarthy too.

Jack,
there is something that I CAN tell you without being indiscrete.
Layton has doctor's orders to have one glass of red wine per day (although his predilection runs more toward a good sour mash).

As for the book signing, he always seems willing. His wife Karen is kind of funny on that. She doesn't understand. She told me with amazement that people KEEP coming up with copies of "this book" to sign, even sending them by mail.
Since the club will be flying them out too she and her son Arlin should be duly impressed when they see the reception Layton gets both in Boulder and Golden.

Considering how much a Kor signature appreciates the market value of the book I certainly hope that people are generous enough to enhance their contribution at the door if they bring a copy for him to sign (and please don't request additional inscription, a signature alone doesn't require much visual effort).

I doubt strongly that Mr. Kor will be inclined to take his show on the road.

In light of that and considering that a mere SushiFest saw attendance from both coasts and even that place up north I can't imagine that true climbing history buffs wouldn't ALREADY be on the phone booking reservations.

(ahem,.. cough,.. cough)

I said, "ALREADY be on the phone booking reservations." :)

I've posted a link on the home page for mountain project and i'll add more information as it becomes available.

And, extra donations should be mandatory for anyone requesting a signature!

Stich ,
I already suggested to the club that they create a FOLK Fund (Friends Of Layton Kor) to take advantage of tax deductible status. There may be word on that shortly.

Actually, at first I thought of just calling it the Friends Of Kor Fund, but then I got a little worried about people screwing up the acronym.

Ron,

well I'll definately be there at 'Tunes with a bottle of good red wine. It would be a good thing if Layton had some original prints of his photos of his exploits that could be auctioned off and/or sold.
Probably the more money he can make to help with his medical expenses the better.

Even if I wasn't saying that I'll pass along the suggestion I'd be bumping this.

I already asked Cmac by email to keep this on the front page, although I imagine that once you make one exception to the rule,...

Still, if there was ever a good time for an exception.

C'mon folks (or should it be FOLKs) keep the buzz going. Lets see every seat filled long in advance.

I'd almost pay to send someone else. He's not just the man, he is THE MAN!

14 page references in Oli's book Wizards of Rock has gotta mean a pivotal figure in the tradition of climbing.

First two entries...

1957 doing Eldo R rated steep climbing!

1959 Hallet Peak in just over an hour where later that year it took Chouinard and Ken Weeks 4 hours. Speed climbing origins?

Hey Tim. . .you should leave your truck at my place and ride up with me. This is one to look forward to for sure. I can't tell you how many times I have been humbled on his routes.

Is there an additional show for Golden? Or is there
a reception in Golden during that weekend climbfest?
Thanks

OK, just got off the horn with the big guy. He is stoked about Neptune's. We didn't discuss ticket price, but I think $20 sounds fair. There is only that one show.
In Golden he will be feted by the club.
If the show is successful he will give consideration to doing others but only on a very limited basis because of the need to consider localized medical backup, so if you want to catch this then October 9 would be the time.

And just so this is clear again, I did not organize this show but rather have been trying to help our friend with other considerations.

Clyde Soles has been working on the organization of this event for months and deserves your thanks.

All the more reason to video the show and create a FOLK fund.

I heard back from CMac today who was very upbeat about helping to get the word out.
Thanks Chris.
