The date is firm, but the rest is in a formative stage.
The venue at Neptune's is about 200 seated with some additional SRO.

There is discussion of a system of two-tiered tickets with some really pricey seats up front that would be worthwhile for those flying in. After all, this is a fundraiser and medical bills are harsh. I don't know if it would be taken as snobbery, and some feedback here could be helpful.

There is also talk of limited advance ticket sales with the rest at the door, also a possible fixed donation for those that want their book signed.

Again, some feedback here could be useful.

Perhaps we could get manufacturers to donate gear to auctions that could include seats as well, yada, yada.

Thanks Stich,
there was a little further discussion today with the club.
Why limit the number of rows?
If there is sufficient interest, hell, I mean it IS a fundraiser.

Some more feedback would be appreciated.
Who would want to fly in for example?
How many books are there out there to sign?
Would there be an interest in a silent auction on some prints?

I was lucky enough to see a Kor slideshow about 25 years ago. It was fabulous. If he can find enough of his old photos, this presentation should be plenty fun as well. Regarding the afterparty- I'd expect him to be pretty sociable. I've had beers with the guy, but wasn't aware of his affection for vino.

Dude - Neptune's sucks for anything more than 30-40 people. Kor would fill Boulder Theater easy.

Wish I could make this event - it sounds like it'll be a great talk and social, for an excellent cause.

Sounds like you can put sicmic down for donating some photos for the silent auction. A reasonable pro quid pro. :-)

Lynn Hill filled Boulder Theater, then the AAC in Golden a couple nights later, if I recall correctly. I love those Neptune's shows, but I think this would be a disaster. There are so many climbers and non climbers who identify with this guy and even more will go the extra mile to help out if that's what is needed. That is my sense, anyway. Sign me up for the headlamp section or better, though, if you go through with it at Neptune's. I can envision ending up watching piped video over in the shoe department or standing outside and looking through the windows.

JLP,
how would non-climbers know about Kor?

A lot of people I've talked to over the years around here know of him - for sure. Just about everyone in Boulder climbs a little, even if just a few 14ers or a TR class at some point. Everyone in Boulder knows a climber, too, and climbers love to drop names. Just my ears, though, but I'be been surprised. Ed Webster filled the AAC center in Golden. Lots of people there that looked like they hadn't tied into a rope in 20-30 years, if ever. They were there. That's the kind of place this is. Kor is one of the guys who created this culture, and a lot of people here live it and are aware of a little of who's who. Just my perspective, though.

Are you sure they didn't just have an outing for the Front Range Assisted Living Center?

(Kidding!, just kidding, Ed is a friend and I'd sure go out of my way to see his show.)

Got it.
I think you talked to the wrong person.
I believe that the date is firm as the club is making special arrangements to transport and provide other support for the Kor family.

Various other details are still pending which probably explains why it is not yet listed on the Neptune's site.
Your request for tickets was way premature.

I go to Neptune shows from time to time and I really don't think this venue is fitting to someone like Kor. The Boulder Theater or the CMC/AAC auditorium in Golden would be much more fitting if you can get a booking.

Neptune's is fine for a few dozen people but that's about it. The floor is flat so often you have a restricted view of the presentation.

You will get hundreds of people turning up to this. If it is only going to one a one shot deal, going to a larger venue and have a tiered pricing system for reservations, book signings, door tickets, etc. I will be sold out many times over.

Thanks for setting this up and sharing the communication. I can hardly wait for it and hope I can get a ticket.

OK folks here is the very latest news:

Neptune's is being besieged by queries prematurely.

They have asked for it to stop.

I just got off the phone with Layton who is not averse to playing a larger room. He is a little apprehensive, would like to "try it out on a small group", but when I observed that the idea was to raise money his response was, "Yeah, well thats why I have to take this thing on the road."
To which I said "or pack 'em in at a large venue" and the logic swayed him.

So this week the site issue should see some discussion.

But there is more:
by calling around about this I stumbled across a major find, a bunch of slides (hundreds) mostly of his desert days, that his first wife had put on a shelf decades ago!!

If somebody did as promised they should be fed-exed to Layton as I write this. They should undergo sorting within a week.

I am totally amped about this. Its like suddenly finding the portal to a time machine.

The billing could even be for the "slightly delayed" tour of the slide show about the FA of Castleton :)

Other issue: ticket price.
Layton doesn't want to charge much but has agreed that a multi-tiered price makes sense.
So be it.

That's the latest, so stop contacting Neptune's.
