All caps might mean you are shouting, but it might also mean you are an old fart who doesn't know any better. ;-)

We're far too cultured and mannerly to use f-bombs. So we use CAP-bombs instead.

when i hit my keys real softly, i stare at nothing and nothing
stares back to me.
i think i'll change my name to
that way when my dad yells at me,
i'll hear only silence.

Seems like a good way to place emphasis on words or syllables. I've told this before, but around 1978 Dick Cilley was getting tired of listening to some guy sitting at the table next to him at Degnan's go on and on about John baCHAR this and John baCHAR that. As Dick was leaving, he leans over to the guy and says, I just saw John YESterday and his name's STILL BACHar!!!

Oddly, Bachar is a Czech/Slovak name, and the stress should be on the second syllable, although most pronounce it with the stress on the first. At least, that's what a friend fluent in the language told me.

Interesting. The use of bold rather than caps is another way, of course, to provide emphasis. It just takes longer.
