I can't figure out why the climbing mags aren't full of stories like this... I find it more inspiring than some guy on a 5.15. Sure, there are probably just as many 77 year-olds climbing as 5.15 climbers, but a lot more of us can hope to be an old climber than the other, no?

Yes, very cool. That one is going off to my parents.

They are always asking me when I am going to quit climbing.
(Which it seems like I have, but this is just a hiatus while my body & mind gets their act together.)

Thanks for posting that!

Sweet!!

Ho Mahn, he almost came off at about 3:50!!
It looks like it's a bit stout, 5.9 at least there where he and his daughter both struggled....

Here, here! That's the kind of stuff I love to see! Maybe now that I'm 51, the thought of a 77 year old climbing holds more interest than it used to...I don't know. In any case, I love to see folks out there LIVING, rather than just existing. Thanks for the post!

Bazo, You made my day, this is going straight to my old buddy who I climbed with in the 60's during high school with a, "I'm tired of hearing you complain about your back, get off that couch and after it!" A hardy Berg Heil to you!

Yes very inspirational. That's what I want to see.
I can only dream of doing that when I'm 77.

The grade according to the ending is VIIa (yds 5.8) plus scant protection and some airy moves.

Awesome!Good technique as well! What an inspiration. I teared up, so glad that modern medicine and disease control allow people to live into their seventies and eighties on a regular basis. I can only dream of sharing a rope with some young gun many many years from now. I will aim for the Nutcracker in my seventies. Till then I will train.

I have had the privilege to tie in with a few climbers who are in their 70s. It is pretty damned amazing. I have to agree that seeing that is way cooler than most of the crap the rags these days. May be Alpinist will do a an issue on the generation that can still kick some ass.

"Sure, there are probably just as many 77 year-olds climbing as 5.15 climbers"

I dunno..I think there are probably a whole lot more 77 year old climbers than 5.15 climbers...And the stories they could tell..

Something to shoot for I guess.
