Some pictures from the first couple days of Sushifest, before my camera battery died. I rolled in on Wednesday. Nature connected me to Brian, who was on his way down from Phoenix and picked me up from the airport.

Now THAT’s a big hunk of fish!

A five-gallon keg doesn’t last long around here!

Especially when your chef gets thirsty as he slaves for the masses…

So many hungry mouths to feed…

But being top chef sure has it’s perks!

As an aside, Sushifest could have been named “Poochie fest”. At times it seemed as if the dogs outnumbered the people!

Some shots of the mutts around our camp. Aussie, key member of the Bitch Brigade. She took it upon herself to make sure the pups didn’t play too roughly.

Summit – the other member of the Bitch Brigade who kept the other dogs out of the kitchen.

Bosco, the gentlemen. He walked me to my tent one night just to make sure I was okay!

Mystic – one of those dogs who, when standing, looks like a potato with four toothpicks stuck in it.

Shakti, playful and pretty.

And last but not least, Jack, the one-eyed troublemaker.

Who chased and harassed a toothless cowboy the first day we were there, and almost got himself shot! Cowboy Mike came back the next day.

“Next time one of them doges chases me, I’m blowin’ it’s head off!”

He was NOT happy about almost getting bucked off his horse.

But I still managed to get him to smile for my camera!

But back to what we were there for…

Paganmonkeyboy and Nature share some thematically-appropriate sake.

While others had an East meets West sort of night…

Fresh ingredients are vital

As well as having the tools of the trade

The climbers are dangerously hungry!

But there was more than enough food to go around

Sushi is a happy food!

Especially when you top it off with a raw quail egg!

At the end of the night, EVERYBODY had eaten their fill

Even Jack got a piece!

Speaking of dogs, I found THIS guy while I was peeing in the woods

I wonder how he would taste rolled up in seaweed?

Yeck! I focused on happier things…like the lively sushi tent glowing warmly in the distance

Full and relaxed, Paganmonkeyboy and Tony do a little acoustic jamming

Paganmonkeyboy, unplugged.

Tom the cop relaxes with his daughter Mary Jane. (Yes, he really is a cop and yes, his daughter’s name really is Mary Jane.)

Nature and PMG test out the equiptment the next day.

Tony jams along with Shakti in the background

Rich and The Doctor, plotting to take over the world. Or, just discussing where to climb that day.

We decide to go to The Pit.

We’re gonna have ourselves a peachy day!

Rich stretches before belaying me on my only lead for the weekend.

Me and Dave (in the background). Geez – you’d think that people came here to climb or something!

This was my first time on limestone…me likey!

I’m having second thoughts. Damn this is steep!

Fuggit. I’m on toprope.

Notice the sticker on Dave’s butt?

We stopped by the grocery store earlier. It’s from an avocado!

We think that Paganmonkeyboy should have a new name…

Pagan ape man!!!

It was a hot, humid, lazy dog day.

Even the humans were lazy! We didn’t last long at The Pit, thanks to the heat!

The next day, everybody was ready for some poker! Some shots of the card sharks, before my battery ran out…

Some players have good luck charms (Tony and Oliver)

Some hide their “gives”

Some are lucky

Some are crafty

And some are just there to look good! Who’s kitchy jammies are these?

Ape man’s, of course!

That's all I got, bitches. I wanna see more!

Excellent start. And I think Kuan's a dog person.

I got back a few hours ago to a hot house and a power outage.
No way I can load this on laptop battery and dial-up, but it was great meeting you Kuan. You should ask Mark Miller about the bunny killer, you'da loved it.

Very Nice!

Me too, Blinny.

You would think I would have learned by now NOT to open a thread with the word "sushi" in it before I've eaten.

I thought so at first too, Shack, but the estrogen/testosterone levels were more equal later in the week!

Great to meet everyone!!!

Gotta get me one o' those Alien t-shirts!

Glad Rox made it to work and you guys made it back to Colorado after all the asleep at the wheel stories. Gotta be young for that drive-all-night-go-to-work stuff.

Nice pics kuan! Left out my baby, but I know your battery died.

My pics were horrible and I didn't have many.

I vow to climb some/more next time.

Thanks Nature for setting this up and all the hard work!!!
Think I owe you some cleanup/help time next time around!!!

Got back from SushiFest (aka DoggieFest, aka RainyFest) a few hours ago. What a great time! I forgot my camera when we went climbing (twice!), but I got a couple snapshots in the camp:

First, the master - Nature hard at work.

The band

Playful dogs

Brian's daughter sews chalkbags

Camp - the bar on the right, poker table behind it, the sushi kitchen in the middle and the stage off to the left.

And I even was able to really climb for the first time since my knee surgery! Woooo Hoooo!!!

i'd like to point out kuan was the best emissary we could possibly have to talk to mr cowboy after the one eyed jack incident - he actually looks much less likely to shoot anyone in those pictures ;-)
