Goofing around last week, I posted to the MP Lost & Found page "I'm lost. Is this SuperTopo?" Well, that has been deleted. I'm not sure I'd last too long over there.

Here's how quickly things can go pear-shaped on MP.com.

hey either are missing the chance to engage Supertopians looking for a new nest, are trying to potty trail before letting us toddle, or are intentionally dissuading, which I doubt but.... maybe. At any rate, I agree that MP will never be Supertopo. Nowhere will ever be Supertopo, except Supertopo.

Nonetheless, I agree that the Lost & Found post was good humor.

This place has never been dominated by noobs, but it’s fully the culture over there - most significant difference I see.

Happie, the Facebook group is actually shaping up incredibly well. A lot of people signing in.

I have enjoyed the Facebook groups on occasion. Even as I have cut back Facebook - I don’t have the app on my phone anymore.

I’m in a big group for the UT Longhorns - 10000 members. It’s fun during football season.
And the local birding and photography groups have been a very important part of my community.

Wide fetish is okay but is a little tedious with fatty, pyro and other deplorables giving each other reach-arounds on the politic threads. Hey Jeff, your still good people in person. Meatfest rocks become of you.

If you click the "latest posts in all forums" button at the top right it looks basically like supertopo.

Also if you've ever climbed outside you'll be one of the most knowledgeable people over there, although that's changing.

That being said I like MP also

hey there, say, happiegrrl2...

this is so true, your quote:

say, i did take a peek over there... but, it did seem very
limited, as to the 'taco refugees' :(

for their local crowd, though, i know it is nice for them...

The Mountain Reject caters to a narrow demographic.

A Facebook account will help you overcome a lack of a belay card from an indoor rock climbing gym, just don't call it pulling plastic.

A lot of over-thinking, fearful handwringers whose lack of understanding & trust in the cumulative value in redundant systems makes one
wonder; given the constant exhibition of doubt, how do they climb at all.
(from the read, it seems like a lot of saying "TAKE" & "HOLD ME HERE" goes on, & "Hey-Look at me" insta-stupid 5yrs & done types)

Those who know what Knot to use and when to use it will never really be welcome.

Over the years I've posted on six forums. Of these, three are dead and SuperTopo is about to go. Each forum had a somewhat different flavor, and there were always people who thought "their" forum was better than all the others (sometimes conveniently ignoring the fact that there was considerable membership overlap).

But ST was actually rather different. For lack of a better term, it had a literary quality that isn't evident elsewhere. The trip report facility admitting photos made ST unique in the list I've participated in, and certainly encouraged a long form of writing that is not a feature of the other forums. The posting of historical documents and the discussions around them was another unique feature.

It became a facile put-down for people with almost no connection to the history of the endeavor they engage in to complain about all the old farts reminiscing, that while engaging in context-free arguments using terms they barely understand. That said, I think there is some truth in the observation that as climbing waned in importance for aging posters, they turned their naturally passionate natures to other things, and absent the common bond of the climbing experience, many things fell apart and became toxic. It became harder and harder to see the whole show as a climbing forum.

So I think it was time. SuperTopo is dead. Long live Supertopo!

The MP thread concerning the kid who fell off the Flatiron is about as good as it gets. Took a 60 footer and still handed out a beating to everyone who stepped up to talk sh#t. Pretty respectful fall too - in tennis on a lichen covered 5.9+
Although he did originally think he was on 5.13 apparently; which handed his combatants a lot of return fire ammunition.

That about encapsulates it, right there.
