When I was younger I listened to the greats like the Beastie Boys, Vanilla Ice, Eminem, House of Pain and such. There are some new faces with a lot of talent and lyricism. Here are just three examples..

Anyone else got any hidden gems? I might be asking the wrong crowd...

I hear ya. There are quite a few talented lyricists that are outside of the box though. I find these guys interesting because they're not trying to recreate what's popular. I enjoy underground music that not everyone has heard of. I have much respect for the mainstream hip hop as well.

Here's one that combines the two together.

Bacon is straight out of Dylanville, yo. Thanks for posting up.

There should be no gen gap in music appreciation.
Even though there is a type of music associated with each succeeding generation;
even though it always tends to mess with the minds of the formerly young because they don't understand it (but could if they tried);
and even if they don't then like it, music simply can't be appreciated unless it is listened to.

I'm in no way gonna judge anyone by their taste in music.
(But let me see you hanging on pro and you're toast.)

There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed.

Jim, maybe you should try to express yourself more clearly, eh? :0)

G-Eazy has quite a story.

Just to be clear my music taste is somewhat eclectic. I play saxophone and listen to Coltrane, Davis, Rollins. I enjoy reggae, ska, punk, rock, blues, metal, EDM, folk, bluegrass, some old country, and ethnic/world music.

Lyricism and creativeness in rap has always stuck with me through the years.

I believe there is already a good rap music thread. The content of this thread is not meant to exclude anyone. The white rappers are a fairly shallow well to draw from and I'm interested in the novelty as well as undiscovered talent.

I listen to all rap but mostly underground. I was born in Vallejo, Ca and love Mac Dre, E-40, Brotha Lynch Hung, Andre Nickatina, Gravediggaz, Doja Click, First Degree, Obie Trice...........

I didn't want those recommendations though I'm looking for a more specific genre.

Thanks for the lesson in how to be sensitive to everyone's feelings though..

Edit: Tribe Called Quest is the bomb.

LMAO.

What about Everlast at this point in his career. Can you even consider him a rapper anymore? Just bringing it up since you mentioned House Of Pain in the OP. I really appreciate the stuff he has done in the last 10 years way more then anything he did with HOP. Is it rap though?

I think Everlast's newer stuff is good and lyrical for sure. He's gotten a lot sh#t about over the years from the hip hop community.

Always liked this song.

Good morning taco stand!

Still looking for talent like this. Wax does unedited videos in one take in a car, on a bike, maybe in a limousine going to heaven.

DJ Dave's Yoga Girl is pretty funny. Comedy rap is a genre in itself for sure.
