Thanks for the Mark Blythe video.. I believe he nails it. On a different thread Kingtut said that people should make their decisions about who should be president based on whether they promise a job or not, and he is in part correct. But the dissatisfaction in this country with the wealth disparity created by the elite is a problem. They have cleverly gotten people to cry foul over "wealth redistribution" in taxes, while hiding from these same people the very wealth redistribution in the new globalization rules that created the need for "wealth redistribution taxes". This rings just like the French revolution. Let them eat cake.

Trump threads continue to get locked here quicker than Ondra is sending the Dawn Wall

Right.

So, maybe, just maybe, we don't need yet another propaganda-ridden thread to "hash this out" some more.

What can be said has been said. There's no "dialog," just drive-by-shootings and increasingly vile personal attacks, which is why these threads keep getting locked.

Let's give it a rest. None of our opinions (or those of the pundits) are important enough to be worth the cesspools these threads all become.

My vote is that you delete this thread, the Taco Stand collectively takes a deep, cleansing breath, and then we all just leave it alone.

I'm curious though what happened to the "Response to Trumpism" thread to get it locked.

It shows 637 posts on the forum lead page, but the thread maxes out at 612 posts. Did something happen this morning that was particularly nasty (I was working and didn't see it for few hours).

Basically I'd like to have some idea of why it was locked because I certainly didn't see any reason for it. Anyone?

This rings just like the French revolution. Let them eat cake.

To me it rings of the unholy alliance between the so-called progressive/socialist Left, both in the US and in Europe, and these normally non-ideological globalist elites. They have thrown in their lot with one another. Both find it necessary to consistently advance the overarching interests and unchecked power of large, centralized government at the expense of the individual -- hence such organizations as the EU, which has been masquerading as merely a regional trade block.

Moreover, the nation state is squarely in the crosshairs of these forces. They see the traditional nation state as outmoded and an impediment to their accumulation of totalitarian control on a global scale. In the US this ultimately means the elimination of the Constitution and its guarantees of individual liberty.

One of the many implications of the recent US elections is that it is a blow and a bit of a setback to these forces, much like the Brexit vote in the UK.

madbolter,

I didn't post this this to promote an agenda; however, I certainly have been one to post inflammatory stuff on others' threads.

I started this thread because I, like many others, really didn't see a Trump win coming.

The links I posted filled in a lot of blanks for me and maybe others will do the same.

but, If the consensus is to take the thread down, I will.

Walls of text. Calling posters racists. Repeated pics of our future first lady, in next to nothing. Hard to say. Maybe Chris is fed up with all the petty crap that's a regular part of political threads.

If this forum is any indication, I'll kill myself before I hit my 60s.

Is that a promise or a threat?

Someone above mentioned the Trump victory comparison to Brexit...

his guy pretty much captured my view.

Really??? That view pretty much sums up for me every serial abuser that says "oh, I'm so sorry, I won't hit you again, please give me a chance....I'm basically a good person". And every person who's been abused and falls for it.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Trump's fooled folks over and over and over. A leopard doesn't change its spots. His rhetoric was all about his character under the thinest veneers of policy.

For once I agree with madbolter. Right now you're either happy to see America return to the 1950's or you're not.

Unlikely. With Trump's affection for Putin we won't be returning to anything like the 1950s. Unless Putin attempts to reestablish the Soviet Union.

given the thread initiating post, i'd like to interrupt this thread to make the following public service announcement:

for those that aren't aware, the word "tranny" is a bit like the words "nigger" or "faggot"...

while some trans folks reclaim it and use it with pride, the majority, at this point in history, understand it to be a derogatory slur...

i mention this, because i assume it was not meant as the latter in the original post... and for folks not in the community i get that the words used to describe trans folks, due to there relative obscurity and continued evolution, can be confusing...

if my assumption is wrong, i'm also not mentioning this to police words. i think people should use the language that they see fit. for example, i think those who think black people are niggers, or gay people are faggots should use those words... it makes it easier to know who a person is if they speak with honesty...

but i also want those, who are interested in other folks' experience, to understand that the history of the word tranny means that trans folks, in general, have very strong contextually dependent reactions to the word [whether good or bad] and so like nigger or faggot, its use should be intentional and not without thought.

as a quick primer for those that don't know, the reason most trans people receive tranny as a pejorative is due to its having a connotation [for many] that a person is "pretending" to be somebody they are not and it has in the past been a way for some outsiders to attempt to control, through the use of language, other people's identities.

while many trans folks may not be the gender that other people expect based on other indicators, this does not mean an outside person has the right to attempt to define who they are.

just as being gay is not a choice, trans individuals are in general expressing who they are, rather than trying to "fool" anybody [given the shades of the rainbow, there are of course exceptions]...

thank you, in advance, for your attention in these matters... :)

and now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
