Hello all-
I just spent the last couple days updating http://www.bigwalls.net Some new stuff that's readily apparent, but also a lot of new stuff snuck into the old pages under "Climb".
Would highly appreciate any feedback-- especially if you find any glitches.
Was hoping to add more stuff about gear design especially portaledge development but have run out of time for now. The slideshows are pretty easy to set up so I will likely add more of those soon.
Thanks!

THis might not be what you are looking for but I found a typo- in the Mt. Hooker article.
The Wind Rivers has a short season in July and August, the other months being inhabitable, let alone climbable.
supposed to be uninhabitable?

Nice stuff in there.
Just checking out your river resume. You are listed as a GC Oar and Kayak guide.
When did they start certifying different kinds of guides? I was down there from 89 to 95 as a guide for Diamond and was only a "Guide". I did about 1/3 oar trips and 2/3 motor.
Cheers.

yo Prod-
The kayak wan't an "official" certification, but to do Kayak support on a commercial trip, the guiding companies generally required at least 3 trips prior. I'm not sure of the official regs, but if CanX had kayakers on the trip, they had to also have a kayak guide.
I once was the kayak guide on a trip where the kayakers had tons more experience than me--but I was very good at never bailing even in the biggest rapids (the worst was probably when I got caught in the eddy fence at the end of Granite in high water for quite a long time, getting pulled under multiple times, but never pulled!). And so sometimes when even the very experienced kayakers bailed, I was able to help collect people, gear, etc as prescribed!
--also fixed the 'inhabitable!' thanks!!

Nice. I did an open boat trip in 2008, and only got ejected once. See video below. Hermit at 18,500 right down the middle. I didn't run Lava..
In 60+/- trips I only flipped once as well. Same rapid, same level, perfect endo of an 18' Demaree.
I got stuck in that big ass eddy bottom right of Granite in a snout one trip. That was a work out!

Yep, I think 63.5 actually.
My first season I did 11 motor trips and 2 oar trips. I'm applying for a private in a few days when the lottery opens up. My last trip was in 2008. Miss that place.
Where is the link Gnome?

Here's some more Hermit shots.
I am the second kayaker at about 0:45--it felt like I was stuck in that wave for minutes!
It was super big that day--it seems to peak out at about 20,000cfs. Funny because the big wave didn't flip me, but one of the smaller tail-waves did (rolled right back up though!).

Hermits looks like death warmed over. woof!
I flipped a Dagger Animas on the Colma to Lotus on the American. Death for sure.
*and anyone that knows anything about the American is laughing spitting coffee at the screen. :)

Now I'm not sure and I hope He will come in and correct me,
or he may nuke the shot but I found this by lurking way back, I often write down a note or to I think this was Boodawg's last trip down the muddy gash in 2005?
I feel bad that this was a BIGWALLS Thread and that Ive added to the swift drift(;+0

no worries on the thread drift! Next to talking about big wall climbing, talking about the wild world of the Grand Canyon is a favourite topic. Cool to see the crossover of folks here!!

Awesome, great to see some close ups of the Swiss American. Pretty sure I could spend the next year on that part of the canyon and not get bored.
Thanks for sharing.
