It's on! The last weekend of October (Oct 30-Nov 1) and possibly the thursday leading up we will be camping near The Obelisk on the border of Kings Canyon National Park to put up new routes on nearby formations or climb classics on The Obelisk (The most fun place I've ever climbed)!

If your legs and schedule permit, mark your calendars! Word has it that the trailheads will be open but if the Rough Fire or weather change we have plans B-W to fall back on with varying levels of approach and awesomeness, but the awesomeness will be at least 11/10 for all options!

Roughly 11 miles to the last consistent water and camp past Geraldine Lakes with another mile or two to the orange chicken head bounty.

Friends, enemies, frenemies and strangers are welcome!

In the words of rope swings, woot!

My computer with my pictures is broken so here's a pic from space!

A movie??? They don't even put real butter on the popcorn anymore.

Limping.... sounds cool.

Is it possible to have the pack station by Wishon lug the stuff????

When I was hiking out the last time I was there, we ran into a packer. She said the quick way in was from that pack station. That got me thinking...."next time get a mule to carry all the stuff"

Maybe even time to saddle up and ride em cowboy....

Guy, the pack station can get you there but they're not cheap!

I've got $20 that says we will be the only ones willing to go out there but it's fun to talk about anyway!

My group could hike in with minimal gear. A 2am raid of your camp will provide our gear and snacks, then we will do FAs while you watch. Just look at it as a rest day. Sounds like a plan.
Please bring hexes, cashews and jerky.

VM/LC: If I can catch a ride with you, from and to San Francisco, I'm nearly certain I can go. I'm working on getting a sub for my classes and rehabbing my foot leather. This would be RAD!

Buy me a plane ticket from NH and I'll cook, carry gear, and make you laugh. I'll clean pitches. My enthusiasm is contagious, catch it.

Guyman, just a guess but that looks like part of Tombstone Ridge. Too close to the Obelisk to be Tephite. There seems to be climbable stuff everywhere.....

Nice shot Radish! Looking pretty smoke free too.

You probably don't have to worry about me showing up as I'll have just come back from climbing somewhere's else for a few days. :( But cool area for sure.

Might be.... Tombstone...

The stone below the Obelisk, in the photo, can be seen from the summit. I never took the time to hike down to it, wish I had, we were on a 3 day weekend. We took more than a day to hike up there- via- Spanish Creek (or Ranchera creek, i need to look at a map.) got sort of lost. Day two we found the Obelisk, hiked down to it and started climbing around noon. We camped by a small running stream not more than 200 yards from the start of "Hands Of Fate" I really wanted to do that one, but on Sunday morning we figured we needed the time to hike out. We followed a very faint, incipient trail, and walked out the way we came in,only without the wandering we did just over the ridge from the Obelisk. Thats when we ran into the packer. She told us its only about a 4-5 hour hike to the pack station.

That sounds awesome and thanks for the photo Radish. I pulled the plug on a trip there this weekend after seeing the fire map. It looked like a lot burned in the area, but not around Geraldine Lake or the Obelisk.

Is the trailhead area open?

Online fire updates say it's not open but some people in the area say they're allowed in and it is open. I don't have any firsthand knowledge yet though.

I guess we share a thing in common - not everyone understands our humor. :/
