In 1998, I dropped a disposable camera off the Zodiac on El Capitan (it was a rare duct tape failure). My (future) friend Andrew Christensen picked it up and used it on his own wall ascent. 16 years later, when going through the prints... he realized it had been my camera... and we are re-united with the photos at last!

The 'belly' in that photo is an optical illusion. I climbed Native Son with Chris in 98, and there wasn't an ounce of fat on him. He was doing a LOT of El Cap ascents during that time.

Man, big wall climbing and disposable cameras. I did (er, tried) my first wall juuuuust before cell phone and digital cameras were common enough and have a few burnt slides to show for it. Like topos pre-internet and bouldering without pads, I feel it's an era long gone but well loved. Something special about spending eleven dollars for a handful of opportunities to capture the biggest days of your life.

Got a chuckle outta that Chris. I think I first met you a year or two earlier, (1996?) as a shy Mission Cliffs kid. You looked just like that ya frikin' nerd. Knew you'd turn out to be the badass that you are. Funny to think you're already reminiscing. Makes me realize that time really does fly when you're having fun. Glad that you, and we, got the chance to see images that may have only ever been in your minds eye.

You have to buy a $4.99 I-phone app to get that kind of an old skool image these days! Way to get the faded filter look the old fashioned way.

wow, those actually work? What a great story and TY for sharing.

In 1998, I was in Northern Thailand, something happened to my camera, I bought something that might or prolly wouldn't work and one of those disposible cameras.

Well, the fix did work and I never opened the disposible. I guess now, I'm going to have to open it and see if it works.

Very cool Chris!

Actually, my main blue Hawaiian shirt has more colorful highlights and fish, less palm trees. See exhibit A:

This pic (must be from le_bruce's camera) was from the very trip where I dropped my digital camera in 2008, and have yet to recover it. Time lapse synchronicity? What are the odds of two people a decade apart wearing a blue Hawaiian shirt and dropping their camera during the trip? I immediately thought of it when I saw this thread, renewing my hope that it will appear someday from someone out exploring the edges of Michael's Ledge.
