WTF?
Another example of the dead taking up more space on this planet.
This ritualistic behavior in modern society makes one wonder just how civilized we really are.
If I die climbing, you don't have to leave a carabiner, chalkbag or old climbing shoes on the spot I land but, thanks for the thought.

Yes ghost bikes all the time. He's always going on about it, but that's what they do in Seattle I guess? It's hip or something.

I think these ghost bikes are a very impactful. They make a statement to both cyclists and drivers to take care. I don't see them as tombstones for the cyclists, but as messages that something very real and awful happened that could have been avoided - and to keep vigilant.

It's not like they are on every corner. Here's the Seattle list of 6: http://ghostbikes.org/ghostbikes/Seattle

I don't need a reminder to pay attention when on the road. I ride a motorcycle everyday.

These shrines do nothing to curb drunk driving or distracted driving.
They will not make you put down your cell phone when you drive.
It's no different than the crosses on the sides of highways.

It's no different than the crosses on the sides of highways.

And do you want to rip out all those crosses, too? Because they're just the dead taking up space that you so desperately need?

And while you're at it, why don't you go up onto some of the ledges in Yosemite and bring down those little jars full of ashes and toss them in the garbage. After all, they're just the dead taking up your valuable space.

I simply think they are ritualistic shrines with religious connotations.
Besides being litter.

Never heard or seen one till this thread. I don't see anything wrong with something that remembers the lost.

Not litter, not necessarily religious, not a huge negative impact on your life, pud. Live and let live. Ghost bikes means a lot to some people, and hurt no one.

if I die while climbing I hope people do leave climbing stuff where it happened. Then I hope someone will come along and poop on all the stuff.

I really loved the whole WOS affair.

It's a trend. It takes away more than it gives.
It's the graveyard mentality.
The dead are free. Let them go. They are done with earthly possessions.

Loved ones that are gone don't need a public shrine to be remembered.

It's a Catholic tradition, brought here by Mexican immigrants, and adopted by the native locals.

Never seen one, so I guess they aren't that obnoxious. But if I did see one, I might slow down or think about driving habits.
