Hey Cracko, I was wondering what's the significance of the EL One moniker.

Damn you for asking Wally! It is a sore subject with my two brothers.
Long ago, I opened another ST account with my work email (I'm now retired and happily unemployed). My original account was under "Cracko" which my older brother nicknamed me when he thought I brought too many medications on a Grand Canyon hike. He particularly had an issue with Flexoral, a muscle relaxer. Anyway, the E.L. in E.L. "One" stands for Expedition Leader. Since I am the brother with the most climbing and backcountry experience, I would always bestow this title on myself during our many outings. Now, I can't seem to get rid of it !!! By the way, my two brothers occasionally post up on ST as Jacko and Festus. In fact, I'm sure one of them will post up soon after reading this sh#t !!!!

Funny story. But it seems that if you really wanted to be rid of it you'd stop using it yourself. Just saying.

Yes, brother Cracko (a.k.a. E.L. One) is far and away the best climber in the family, as I've never been on the sharp end for anything more than a 5.7 half pitch bolt ladder in Joshua Tree. But how on earth he has come to believe he has the most backcountry/wilderness experience in his family, well, that remains a troubling mystery...unless his case is that his home for the last 30+ years, Antelope Valley, is backcountry. Well, yeah, by most social measures.

Anyway, to find a close and beloved family member suffering from such chronic self-delusion, you can remain calm, reasoned, and supportive for only so many years and then SNAP!

In my case, I'm ashamed to admit, the snap occurred with a simple two-sentence outburst after enduring yet another boatload of crap about "most backcountry experience":

"Yeah, okay fat a$$, whatever you say. Hey, you should solo El Cap!"

I hear you Todd !! I will be on NNL come October 6th to give it my best.
I have left no stone unturned in preparation, even enlisting the services of my "Racking Buddy" Max.

I promise I will get out your way to visit Todd, hopefully with a good story.

Clearly Mr. Gordon knows something about retirement, 'cuz this is Cracko just last month training for his El Cap solo. Inspired by his goal and his rigorous training regimen, my kids now call their uncle the land manatee.

This thread makes me wish I had biological brothers. I've got soul brothers out there, but to have a bio one seem like a pretty sweet deal.

Go get 'em Cracko - you can do it.

Land Manatee is a clever handle. Might just overtake E.L. One in time, give it time.

Hey. Does Cracko live in the Antelope Valley ? He looks remarkably like my kids principal. Of course he was younger and a bit more svelte then.
