"medium/large" volume? Or "medium/large" torso length?

And if volume...what's large? 50L? 75L? 105L?

That's going to be a tough one for the price. Check craigslist for used gear, with a little work you can find some great deals.

Don't let the old people frustrate you too much. They're mostly just joking around in their weird old person way.

Hi, my name is Laurie, and I am Cory's Aunt. Let me introduce myself by sayin just this; My nephew is an AWESOME kid. He talks to me about everything. And if I hear of ya all talkin any more crap to him, you WILL have an issue with ME. And I'm a bitch! :) Be warned! Thank you and have a nice day! Some of you maybe joking, but stop that sh#t right now. It's not very age appropriate especially when you all know he's 11! Come on, grow up!

Maybe best to determine/ post what you are looking to do with the pack to determine the best size ? Day pack, overnight pack, plan to use it to lump stuff to the crag but wear or not wear on the climb etc?

Search ebay, the lowe alpine packs go for cheap, north face cost 3 times more. Used rei packs are cheap too. $60 is definitely doable.

I suggest using Laurie as your Sasquatch/Sherpa instead.

^ that is a nice offer. Also another great source for a deal on a pack would be to search Moutianproject.com in their For Sale section:

Yeah what he said ^

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moving right along.
Cory, most people that get completely involved in a particular activity tend to buy gear built with that specific activity in mind.
Most of the new packs you will look at that are made by big name American companies will be a little trendy in price for a given volume but have better than cheapo quality.
Go check out Walmart and maybe some sporting goods stores like 'Big 5' etc.
Walmart carries gear from 'Outdoor Gear' and this other name that uses a 'Swiss Army' logo knock off.
Keep an eye out in the local Salvation Army and other thrift stores.
If yah get a hold of a cheap, production pack, by the time you decide it has features you don't need and vice versa... it'll be burned out and you'll be a better informed buyer next time around.
Sometimes Walmart/Kmart etc. will have these packs that are meant to be like river bags. have seen ones for $45.00 - $80.00 that are very large/high capacity and actually have pretty top notch suspension systems.
Of course there's Ebay but that's tuff for younger people with out a credit card and all that.
Be creative Army/Navy surplus, that's a good place to check as well.
