It is that time of year again.

You don't normally expect to have this much fun for the price of a permit to "run up the cables."

And don't expect much from the video. It's just refreshing to wake up to coffee and be "back on the Saddle again."

Did they need some tools to take the cable apart?

Who would be carrying them if they did?

Or maybe you can just pull the stakes out and move the cable over.

Quick thinking attorney files HD Quick-release Cable Rescue Apparatus Patent (HDQCRAP). (no number yet, database only contains "granted" numbers).

Quick reacting, but slow thinking hiker requests refund of ticket price. The thrill is gone.

Much better video

I've never been on the cables. Was that as close as it looks to a "game over" for that guy?

Holy cow look at that picture. It is almost as bad as Everest.

People get paralyzed with fear on the cables route, and the line just creeps along at the speed of the slowest person. The one time I went up it, I bypassed the line and just ran up the slab alongside the cables. It's 4th class friction or maybe 5.1.

In terms of raw quantity, it's much worse than Everest.

That was satire. Or sarcasm. Not sure which, but i thought it was funny.

Everest would have about a hundred tents ripped to shreds in the foreground.

Uh, Sherpas? I wonder if a donkey could make it up like at the Grand Canyon. Maybe a yak, they're more sure-footed I believe.

I'm surprised the domino video isn't cited by tinfoilers as evidence the twin towers were demolished.

Pretty cool though.

Good thinking on the part of the rescuers.

khanom

Your photo is deceiving to the eye.

A woman shot down that area and went to the base,

She was dust and in pieces and I stuffed all the parts in the black bag ......

The woman kept going because it was wet and raining, a big contributing factor .....

He's walking casually because he has hold of the cable.

A couple days before the cables went up this year, I hiked up to do the route with the cables down and see if I could do it without the cables. During my prep in the morning, I forgot to put the climbing shoes in the pack. Oh, well, I'll give it a try in the tennis shoes. After a few steps, I grabbed the cable. It was much steeper and slicker than I thought it would be.

Anyway I can't help but feel that the "rescuers" actions were questionable at best.

What is questionable about it? If they weren't climbers then they had no idea how safe or dangerous that slope is. I applaud them for taking action and not waiting for a rescue team which has happened in the past. I had no idea one could move the cables that far.

Remember one of the previous rescues people just stood around waiting for the helicopter. Werner suggested that they could have taken their pants off, tied them together, and made a rope long enough. There were a good 100 people or more standing around during that incident.

Right before that incident we had seen a video of a flash flood in a third world country. Someone was trapped and a bunch of people made a chain by linking arms and went and got the person. That was way more dangerous then this spot.
