They are almost as tasty and easy to chew as a pine tree.
"Ever eat a pine tree?" "Many parts are edible!"
Euell Gibbons RIP.

lots of rumors about euell's death--one reason i was looking into it. wiki says it was a ruptured aortic aneurism due to marfan syndrome, which is a lifelong condition, his height and build indicative of that. doesn't sound like he ate the wrong plant.

Aren't all Gibbons amazing climbers?
Who got pics? Gibbon vs tiger, looks like a young tiger or it would have gone bad for the monkey there. 2:30 is the business if you want to skip ahead. 3:58 the Gibbon swings down and grabs the tigers tail. Mad skillz! Woot!

I heard that in the end, near to his demise, he ultimately died when...
"They tried to give him Oak branches intravenously."
On a more serious note and in an attempt to
"stop the effing thread drift and read the link"
Well I did read the "effing" link and TFPU.
Euell was an amazing character.
He did a whole thing on living off the seashore.
It was based on the Maine/New England coast but was fascinating and informative for any coastal waters really.

i bought edible wild plants by elias and dykeman awhile back and have been doing a little experimenting. picked up some tender mustard sprouts near stoney point recently--they cook up pretty well if you like "greens". and sorrel grows all over--makes a nice addition to salad.
gibbons was a guest on carson's show, and carson made some pretty good fun of him. i was impressed by gibbons' erudition in that "plowboy" interview--lacking formal education, he had a lot to say and quoted others well. i think his take on our relationship with nature and how to pass on good attitudes to youngsters is right on.

Kind of sappy.

There must have been pretty good awareness for Euell Gibbons back in the day. I came across some graffiti on the inside of de-commissioned fire lookout tower in the White Mountains:
'EUELL GIBBONS EATS TV DINNERS!'

I don't know what this thread is about because I didn't read any of the posts. Lost interest in the middle of the 1st post sentence.
But it was by T-Bird so I clicked on it.
Is there anything funny before this post? Please let me know.
