This is the first time in a looong time that I got to pop a friend's cherry, and some of my own!

Up at Tuolumne Meadows for the first time this season, I'd dragged a friend up (who'd never been) on Saturday morning and managed to hit the Meadows at 10amish. With my buddy awestruck by the views, I speed our way to Pywiack Dome to hit our first climb. To hell with finding a place to sleep for the night - we were going to climb damnit!

My buddy had never done TM slabby face, and I felt Z tree would be a gentle reminder of the joys of granite slab. He did say he loved face. A n00b risk adverse trad leader, we walked up to the first set of bolts where I set up our first anchor as my buddy shakily maneuvered the 4th class slab. The following pitches go smoothly. The 5.7 top out crack reminded me that 5.7 wide makes me far more nervous (and sweaty) than 5.7 tight hands. Guess I just like it small and tight. At the belay, my buddy was feeling just how tight his aggressive sporty climbing shoes really were after 3 pitches. The curses were an excellent accompaniment to my sweaty progress up the short crack.

At the top out looking at Half Dome and Cathedral Peak, I am high with my first time leading the entire climb and bringing up a relatively inexperienced second. It had taken me longer than I expected (damn wide crack slowed me down), but I was at the top with my partner, safe, all gear accounted for, uninjured, with some found booty to top it off. Cherry popped, summit smoke commence. Yeah! Then my buddy turns to me and tells me he's never done a multipitch climb before...NEVER!

Unbeknownst to me, I'd become a cherry popper! And yes, it makes me blush to think of it...

I popped his TM multipitch cherry and it was awesome. I'd popped my muliptich cherry and had a blast.

I climb slow, over think my climbs, fiddle too much with gear, hold up climbing teams behind me, get lost, and still wig out on easy terrain. I'm a n00b trad leader and having a blast out there.

Now if I could only figure out the approach for Tenaya Peak, I can bag my first peak. Yeah, I'll do all the leads(if they let me) too...

Safety Third!

Thanks for reading.

Cheers

LS

nice.

although a bit more stone fruit than i needed.

tenaya's almost less of a peak than pywiak, although the buttress is a lot longer route.

Having popped a few I suspect the thread title is only a lure to jihadists and (other) poor performers.

A poor tease but at least it is a climbing thread!
