hey there say all.... today is oct. 4, 2010 (had to edit, just a tad)

the parents of jeff batten, asked me to post this to you:

this is a very hard and sad thing for all of us,
and out of respect, i am doing so for them:

the parents of jeff batten, "juan", would like you to know they,
have come to view this website, and earnestly desire to share this with you all:

"jeffery", as they called him, was their youngest son...

this is from a letter from his father, that was sent to me,
i am using most of it, as he says it best, for sure:

My wife and I were most impressed with the magnitude of the climbing fraternity which Jeff was so much of a part of.... All of it's members have a right to be proud of the support and concern they gave to a fallen comrade.

People who climb are a special breed and we well remember Jeff's exitement at climbing the huge rock face of "El Capitan" in his beloved Yosemite Valley.

My wife and I would like to request a favor in as much we would like to leave a note of appreciation on the climbing internet website thanking all those who took the trouble to make all the very kind comments, and thought perhaps you would be able to do this for us.

Thank you for all you wrote.

*if i messed up the spelling, i will go back and check, as i just typed it
into the quotes.... needless to say, being very sentimental, i had to cry some... but other than that, i put this up immediatly for you-all, for them...

god bless to you folks...
after seeing things like this note from jeff's dad:
i am very glad that my mom, gave the love of the greatoutdoors, to
me, or i would not be walking in the midst of all you, from being "led" here in spirt, to you folks, you well-knit climbing folks...

once again,
god bless...

please keep jeff's wife and family in your prayers, thoughts,
and well-wishes...

*special thanks to jennie, for my seach's success...
hope it okay, to mention all this... :)

*just an edit note, as juan's name (jeff) was mentioned recently, as to suicide situations (4-21-2001, in another thread)

and, folks should now understand, yes, jeff DID finally get the courage to listen to your helpful advice and act on getting help...

i believe it would be okay with jeff's parent-folks, if i at least share THAT bit,(out of respect, though, only that bit)--please know, that at the time of his death, jeff WAS getting help, even as many of you all had tried to get him to do, and as some of us earnestly hoped and prayed...

thank you for being friends and trying to share your thoughts and help--
SO--YES he was getting help and sought to do get help in a proper manner, too, please always remember that... that is why his death was even more devestating...

god bless... there is nothing more precious than friends trying to lend a helpful hand of wisdom, hope, or as an anchor, til someone is able to try to take that hard HARD step, at seeking help, when life is devestatingly depressing....

note:
**i took this out of the post of mine from another POST where i had felt the need to share it (due to his name being mentioned there, as i said), as that other thread there, was really turning nasty,
and:
i felt this "bit of honor to a fallen comrade" did not belong there anymore (so, i found a place here, where i could edit and "sneek it softly in", to do some good for any hearts that needed this :)...

well, god bless to you all, you are all very special...

okay--this is done now...

Neebee-

Thanks for taking the trouble to post this. I believe Jennie had a hand in this also so thanks to her too.

Knowing that Jeff's family and I assume his wife too, has seen this thread, will bring a sense of closure to many of the people who posted here.

Jeff's parents and family have much to be proud of their son. We are a tight group and I think Largo put it once, if we aren't ribbing or making fun of you....then you better believe you're not part of the group. Let his parents know that their son was part of a community that care very much for members of their family and hopefully they will continue to catch up on Jeff's extended family here on the Topo!
Peace
thanks for posting Liz

To Mr. & Mrs. Batten go my best wishes. Jeffery "Juan" Batten gave us all many laughs and provided entertainment. We all noticed when he was no longer present on supertopo, but most of us were not aware he had passed away. Best wishes.
